US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, underscored the importance of the India-US partnership during an event in Bengaluru that marked the 250th anniversary of American freedom. He emphasised the diverse sectors in which both countries collaborate, including trade, defence, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, and space technology. This occasion, celebrated on September 7, served as a platform not just for reflection but also for future-oriented initiatives aimed at enhancing bilateral relations.

In his speech, Gor outlined that while the occasion recognised America’s historical journey, his purpose in India focuses on achieving tangible outcomes. “President Trump didn’t send me to India to look back. He sent me here to get things done and look forward,” Gor stated. His remarks highlighted a commitment to delivering practical results beneficial for both nations involved.

Gor identified Bengaluru as a fitting location for the discussions due to its reputation as a hub of innovation and entrepreneurship. He praised the city for its dynamism, stating, “This city builds. It delivers. It doesn’t wait around.” He linked this proactive spirit to the broader goals of the US-India relationship and his tenure as an ambassador.

TRUST Fellowship Initiative Launched

During the event, Gor announced the launch of the TRUST Fellowship, a collaboration aimed at bringing together American and Indian researchers to work on groundbreaking technologies. He referred to this initiative as a significant opportunity to delve into sectors like artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, and biotechnology. “These technologies are expected to define this century,” he remarked, emphasising the importance of collaborative research in shaping future advancements.

Gor further detailed the expansive nature of the ongoing cooperation between the two nations, stating that they are involved in diverse strategic and economic sectors. He pointed out that the US engages in more military exercises with India than with any other nation, illustrating the close ties in defence. “In any sector, the United States and India are working together at a record level,” he added.

In a subsequent post on social media platform X, Gor expressed his honour in participating in the 250th-anniversary celebration and reaffirmed the significance of the bilateral relationship, particularly in terms of innovation and investment. He stated that the partnership is vital for strengthening supply chains and driving technological advancements across South India.
