Easing Pressure on Mumbai Airport

Designed as a world-class facility, NMIA will help significantly reduce congestion at Mumbai’s existing airport and establish a robust multi-airport system for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The project reflects decades of planning, engineering expertise, and coordination among multiple agencies, positioning Navi Mumbai as a major aviation hub.

CIDCO Highlights Inclusive Growth Vision

CIDCO Vice Chairman and Managing Director Vijay Singhal described the airport’s operational launch as a proud and emotional moment. He said the project symbolises the Maharashtra government and CIDCO’s commitment to futuristic infrastructure, inclusive growth, and enhanced global connectivity. Singhal called NMIA a collective dream realised with the support of citizens over the years.

Iconic Design and Strong Partnerships

CIDCO acknowledged the Adani Group and Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd. (NMIAL) for delivering the airport’s lotus-inspired terminal, which has already become a striking architectural landmark. The design reflects India’s cultural identity while focusing on sustainability and innovation. Authorities praised the seamless collaboration between the state government, CIDCO, Adani Group, and NMIAL in delivering the project.

Boost to Regional Economy and Connectivity

NMIA is expected to transform mobility and economic prospects across Navi Mumbai and nearby regions, including Pune, Thane, Panvel, Raigad, and the Konkan belt. The airport will reduce travel time, improve access to global destinations, generate employment, and attract investments, while also boosting tourism and trade.

Seamless Multimodal Access

The airport has been planned with strong multimodal connectivity, including expressways, arterial roads, suburban rail, metro corridors, and upcoming mass transit systems. Key links such as the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) and national highways will ensure smooth last-mile connectivity, making NMIA one of India’s most accessible airports.

Day One Flight Operations

On its first day, NMIA will handle 30 air traffic movements. Airlines including IndiGo, Akasa Air, Air India Express, and Star Air will operate flights. The first arrival will be an IndiGo flight from Bengaluru at 8:00 am, followed by the first departure to Hyderabad at 8:40 am.
