Stellantis Announces Rs 4,000 Crore Investment in India, Plans 12 Product Launches by 2029

The CSR Journal Magazine

Stellantis has revealed a significant investment of approximately Rs 4,000 crore in India, which is part of its FaSTLAne 2030 strategy. This investment is aimed at expanding the company’s footprint in the Indian automotive market, with plans to launch twelve new products under its Jeep and Citroen brands over the next three years. The initial product is expected to debut in the second quarter of 2027, marking a new phase in Stellantis’ operations in the country.

This latest financial commitment brings Stellantis’ total investment in India to around Rs 15,000 crore by 2030, building on an existing investment of over Rs 11,000 crore. These funds have been allocated to various sectors, including manufacturing, engineering, software development, sourcing, and exports. The company aims to enhance its presence in key passenger vehicle segments while reinforcing India’s role within its global operations.

Product Launch Strategy for Jeep and Citroen

The forthcoming product strategy will feature five new launches from Jeep and seven from Citroen, covering a diverse range of vehicle categories. This portfolio will include A-segment cars, B-, C- and D-segment SUVs, a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), and a premium pickup truck. Approximately fifty per cent of the new models are anticipated to be global offerings, while the remainder will be specifically developed for the Indian market.

Stellantis is reportedly considering the use of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) architecture for some of its upcoming models. This approach is expected to enhance localisation efforts and improve cost efficiency. Further specifics regarding the models and their platforms have yet to be disclosed.

Jeep is set to strengthen its position in the premium SUV segment, introducing new products and powertrain options that build upon its established reputation for capability and distinctive design. Citroen, on the other hand, will focus on mainstream segments, offering vehicles designed to meet the preferences of Indian consumers, with an emphasis on comfort, technology, and accessibility.

Multi-Energy Strategy and Localisation Efforts

As part of its comprehensive strategy, Stellantis plans to introduce a variety of powertrain technologies in its future Indian offerings. This includes internal combustion engines, conventional hybrid systems, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The choice of powertrain will be influenced by customer needs, affordability, regulatory requirements, and the availability of charging infrastructure.

Localisation is a key focus of the FaSTLAne 2030 strategy, with Stellantis aiming for localisation levels of 90% across its Jeep and Citroen models, contingent on commercial and technical viability. The company intends to leverage India’s supplier and engineering capabilities to support both domestic production and global operations.

Stellantis operates three manufacturing plants in India, located in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra, and Thiruvallur and Hosur in Tamil Nadu. Its engineering and software operations are centred in Bengaluru, while Hyderabad serves as the base for its information and communications technology activities. India is also expected to play a more prominent role as an export hub, with Stellantis currently exporting vehicles and components to approximately fifty markets worldwide.

Recent Business Performance and Future Outlook

The announcement of the new investment follows a positive trend in Stellantis India’s business performance. The company reported a 35% growth in its operations during the second quarter of calendar year 2026 compared to the previous quarter. Additionally, Citroen’s retail sales surged by 68% in the same quarter, compared to the corresponding period in 2025.

With twelve product launches planned, an expanded range of powertrain options, and a renewed commitment to investment, Stellantis aims to significantly enhance the market presence of both the Jeep and Citroen brands in India by 2030. The company is also set to improve its sales and service network, focusing on parts availability and after-sales support, particularly in Tier-2, Tier-3, and Tier-4 markets.
