Food Safety Department Conducts Inspections

The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) in Gautam Buddha Nagar has intensified its inspections ahead of the Sharadiya Navratri festival. On Wednesday, October 14, officials seized approximately 240 litres of ghee and 18 kg of chilli powder during a thorough check at City Mall, located in Dadri’s Nai Basti. This action is part of a broader initiative to ensure food safety standards are upheld during the festive period.

The inspection was carried out under the direction of the district magistrate, with Chief Food Safety Officer Virendra Dwivedi leading the team. The FSDA’s efforts are aimed at safeguarding public health by monitoring food products sold in the district, especially as demand typically increases during the festival season.

During the inspection, the team focused on the operations of City Mall, which is managed by the online platform Cmunity Private Limited. The officials collected six food samples for laboratory testing to assess their quality and compliance with established food safety standards.

Details of Seized Products

The FSDA seized around 240 litres of ghee after discovering that the product packaging contained misleading information regarding the presence of vitamins and minerals. This action was taken due to concerns about the accuracy of the claims made on the packaging, which could potentially mislead consumers.

Additionally, approximately 18 kg of chilli powder was confiscated because the packaging lacked essential details such as the packing date and batch number. The department classified this product as misbranded, highlighting the importance of adhering to food labelling and packaging regulations.

The seizures were conducted in response to alleged violations of food safety laws. The department has yet to release the laboratory findings for the six samples collected during the inspection, which will determine the next steps regarding the seized products.

Laboratory Testing and Future Actions

The food safety team collected samples from six different products, including Avatar brand ghee, Avatar brand cow ghee, chilli powder, makhana, mustard oil, and buckwheat flour. These samples are currently being sent to a laboratory for detailed analysis.

Officials indicated that further actions would be contingent upon the results of these tests. The findings will ascertain whether the sampled products comply with the applicable food safety standards and if additional measures are necessary to address any violations.

This inspection is part of the FSDA’s ongoing efforts to monitor food products in the district, particularly during the festive season when food demand tends to rise significantly. The department aims to ensure that all food items sold meet the required safety standards.

Guidelines for Food Traders

Moreover, it is essential for traders to obtain proper bills for their purchases and verify critical information on food packaging, including manufacturing dates, batch numbers, and other mandatory details, before selling products to consumers.

Assistant Commissioner of Food, Second Division, Sarvesh Mishra, confirmed that the department will continue conducting inspections as directed by the district magistrate. The ongoing campaign aims to uphold food safety requirements and prevent the distribution of substandard products in the market.

Further developments regarding the case at City Mall will depend on the laboratory test results and the FSDA’s evaluation of the identified violations. The department remains committed to ensuring food safety during this festive period and beyond.
