Sachin Pilot Addresses Speculation on Amarinder Singh’s Return to Congress

The CSR Journal Magazine

Congress leader Sachin Pilot has stated that “anything is possible in politics” in response to questions about the potential return of former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to the Congress party. In an exclusive interview with the Press Trust of India (PTI), Pilot, who is responsible for Congress activities in Punjab, acknowledged Singh’s significant contributions to the state and described him as a person of considerable stature.

Despite these compliments, Pilot clarified that he has not engaged in discussions with Singh regarding his political future. He noted, “As far as Captain sahab is concerned, I’ve known him personally since I was very young. And I’ve worked closely with him. Personally, I’ve not had any interaction with him on this particular issue.”

He also mentioned that while Singh has made critical comments about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he has not had any direct conversations with him about his plans or aspirations. Pilot remarked, “Time will tell what happens. I can’t say anything right now.”

Amarinder Singh’s Discontent with BJP

The speculation surrounding Singh’s potential return to Congress has intensified, particularly following his recent expressions of dissatisfaction with the BJP. Last month, Singh stated that the party had not consulted him regarding Punjab’s issues, asserting that it was his responsibility to communicate his views to the BJP. He emphasised that this did not imply he was leaving the party.

Singh has also indicated that he is experiencing “difficult times,” although he did not provide further details. The speculation regarding his political future gained traction in August when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi referred to Singh as his preferred politician from the BJP during an Instagram session. In response, Singh acknowledged his personal relationship with the Gandhi family but reaffirmed his political allegiance to the BJP.

Singh has had a notable political career, having served as a prominent leader in the Congress party in Punjab. He led the party to a significant victory in the 2017 state Assembly elections, becoming chief minister for a second term. His previous term as chief minister was from 2002 to 2007. However, he resigned and departed from Congress in 2021 amid internal conflicts within the party’s Punjab unit.

Upcoming Punjab Yatra by Sachin Pilot

In a separate development, Sachin Pilot is set to embark on a five-day yatra across Punjab from October 16 to 20. This initiative aims to connect with families who have lost loved ones to gang violence and to address perceived failures in law enforcement. The Congress party has announced that the yatra will cover various districts, including Moga, Bathinda, and Amritsar.

During this period, Pilot will meet with bereaved families, offering condolences and listening to their accounts regarding the crimes and the responses they have received from police and government authorities. The Congress party highlighted that many families have experienced long delays in legal proceedings related to killings attributed to organised crime.

The yatra is intended to amplify the families’ demands for justice, bringing their concerns to the attention of the public and the state government. Additionally, Pilot plans to underscore what the party describes as a decline in law and order under the current Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab.
