A disturbing incident unfolded in Gurugram’s Sector 37, where a young couple working in the IT sector were found dead inside their apartment. Ajay Kumar (30) allegedly strangled his wife, Sweety Sharma (28), and later died by suicide. The couple, both software engineers, had been married for three years.

The tragedy came to light after Ajay reportedly sent a video message to a friend around 3:15 pm on Sunday, stating his intention to end his life. The friend alerted police, who rushed to the apartment in The Millennia housing complex. The apartment door was locked from inside, and upon breaking in, police discovered Sweety’s body on the floor, strangled with a scarf, while Ajay was found hanging from the ceiling fan.

Initial investigations suggest that the couple had frequent arguments, and the video clip indicated a heated dispute had taken place before the incident. A police officer stated, “The video appeared to suggest that an argument had broken out between the couple.”

Despite Reunion, Marital Strain Persisted

The couple’s background reveals that Ajay hailed from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, while Sweety came from Asansol, West Bengal. Despite efforts to reconcile after a period of separation, relatives say the relationship remained strained.

Sweety’s mother shared her final phone call with her daughter on Sunday afternoon. Sweety had told her that Ajay was fixing a bookshelf. “I told her to check with the landlord before drilling into the wall. The call ended with Sweety saying she’d call back. But she never did,” her mother told TOI, adding that she made over thirty unanswered calls to both Ajay and Sweety later in the day.

Ajay’s cousin, Deepak Gupta, confirmed the contents of the video, stating that Ajay spoke about his desire for a peaceful family life and hopes for children before describing his emotional breakdown. “By the time we reached the flat with the police, it was already too late,” he said.

Video Shows Ajay Confessing Before Suicide

Police said the video also allegedly contained Ajay’s confession. “In one part of the video that Ajay Kumar shared with his friends, he can be heard saying that he killed Sweety. He then reveals his plans to end his life too,” an officer reported.

Following the incident, Sweety’s family filed a formal murder complaint against Ajay. A family member said, “She kept trying to save the marriage, but the fights never stopped.”

According to Sanjay Kumar, Additional SHO of Sector 10A Police Station, the investigation is ongoing. Police are analysing the video message, statements from family members, and other evidence to determine the exact motive behind the alleged murder-suicide. Both bodies were sent for autopsy.
