Gujarat Allocates Rs 650 Crore for Rural Sanitation Improvement

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Gujarat Panchayat Department has initiated the Mukhyamantri Nirmal Gram Yojana, aimed at enhancing sanitation and public health within rural regions. This program is currently active in 667 villages spread across 21 talukas in 12 districts of the state. As per the latest information from the Chief Minister’s Office, a budget of Rs 650 crore has been set aside for this initiative.

Focus on Waste Collection and Management

Under this scheme, Gram Panchayats will engage agencies responsible for door-to-door waste collection and the cleaning of public areas. The collected waste will be transported to designated dumping sites, with each taluka appointing an agency to facilitate the collection and transfer of waste from villages to the nearest municipal processing facilities. This initiative is also operational in urban authorities such as RUDA, GUDA, and VUDA, underscoring its comprehensive approach to sanitation.

Goals of the Mukhyamantri Nirmal Gram Yojana

The primary aim of the Mukhyamantri Nirmal Gram Yojana is to improve cleanliness standards across rural areas and enhance the overall public health scenario. Additionally, the scheme offers incentives for the maintenance and repair of sanitation-related assets and vehicles under the Swachh Bharat Mission, which further supports broader hygiene initiatives.

Infrastructure Developments in Narmada District

In a separate but related initiative, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved significant infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity for over 18,000 residents from around 11 villages in the tribal regions of Narmada district. An allocation of Rs 302.40 crore has been approved for the construction of two new bridges in this area.

Details of the Bridge Construction Projects

The sanctioned budget includes Rs 123.13 crore for a bridge connecting Rengan Ghat to Rampura Ghat, and Rs 179.27 crore for another bridge linking Shaherav Ghat to Tilakwada Ghat. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, these bridges are expected to greatly ease transportation for residents in several villages, including Tilakwada, Vasan, Rengan, Rampura, Mangrol, and Shaherav, thereby enhancing accessibility to district and taluka headquarters.
