Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 Set to Launch Alongside iPhone 18 Pro

The CSR Journal Magazine

Apple is anticipated to announce the Apple Watch Series 12 and the Apple Watch Ultra 4 on September 9, in conjunction with the iPhone 18 Pro. Although the company has not officially confirmed that these watches will debut at the event, it has organised a special presentation known as “Surprise and Shine” for that date. Historically, September has been the month when Apple reveals new iPhone and Apple Watch models, increasing speculation that this year will not deviate from tradition.

Expected Features and Health Tracking Enhancements

As the launch approaches, speculation surrounding the next-generation Apple Watches has intensified. Among the anticipated upgrades are new health-monitoring functionalities and a renewed emphasis on wellness. Notably, it is reported that the Apple Watch could feature continuous heart-rate monitoring, allowing the device’s sensor to gather information throughout the day rather than only during exercise or at set intervals. This enhancement is designed to provide users with a comprehensive overview of their heart-rate patterns.

Furthermore, improvements to the Health and Fitness app are also on the horizon. Apple is reportedly exploring ways to highlight more wellness metrics, similar to popular health platforms such as Whoop and Oura. This shift aims to assist users in understanding their overall well-being, going beyond merely tracking workout performance.

In terms of hardware, Apple is said to be testing ceramic cases in white and dark grey for the Series 12. This material, previously utilised in high-end models including the Apple Watch Series 3 in 2017, may make a return. Additionally, new colour options and configurations for bands are expected, although significant design changes are not anticipated this year.

Performance Improvements and Upcoming Redesign

The new Apple Watch models are likely to see performance enhancements with the introduction of a faster chip. The Series 11 and Ultra 3 currently operate on the S10 chip, while the next versions are expected to feature an S11 or a newer variant. This would represent the most substantial performance upgrade for the Apple Watch in several years.

However, major redesigns appear to be in the pipeline for the future, with reports suggesting that a substantial overhaul may occur in one to two years. For the upcoming models, the emphasis will be less on visual updates and more on improving the devices’ roles as health and wellness companions.

It is also noted that the Apple Watch SE 4 will likely not be introduced this year. The September 9 event seems to be geared towards enhancing health tracking capabilities, a revamped wellness experience, and faster performance, alongside new case and band selections. The focus will primarily remain on the Pro iPhones and the awaited iPhone Fold.
