Govt Asks CBFC to Review Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke Over Vulgarity Concerns

The CSR Journal Magazine

The song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from the film KD: The Devil has come under scrutiny, leading government authorities to intervene. Allegations have emerged claiming that the song contains vulgar and sexually suggestive content. In response to these concerns, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to investigate the matter and determine the appropriate course of action.

Criticism Over Content and Impact

The track, which features popular actors Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, has been criticized by various factions. Detractors have highlighted potential issues with the song’s lyrics, visuals, and choreography, arguing that it promotes vulgarity and objectifies women. There are concerns regarding its impact on younger audiences who may be exposed to such content.

Call for Stricter Monitoring Measures

Officials have suggested that mechanisms for monitoring obscene or objectionable content in films and music videos should be enhanced. If needed, there may be considerations for amending existing film certification guidelines to prevent the release of content judged to be indecent or harmful to societal values.

Response from All Indian Cine Workers Association

The situation was further amplified when the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) formally addressed the CBFC and Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw, requesting immediate action. In their communication, the association described the song as a “serious public concern,” alleging that it contains double-meaning phrases that do not align with the expected standards of decency in Indian cinema. They expressed apprehension about what they referred to as an “alarming trend” in the industry, where some songs seem designed to provoke controversy and garner publicity.

AICWA’s Demands for Action

AICWA has called for the immediate ban of the song and its removal from both digital and broadcast platforms. The association has urged authorities to revisit the film’s certification process to ensure compliance with moral and ethical standards in content dissemination.
