The Google Pixel Watch 5 is set to be available for purchase in India starting from August 20. Pre-orders have been accepted since the announcement earlier in August, coinciding with the release of the Pixel 11. The 41mm variant of the Pixel Watch 5 is priced at Rs 42,900, while the larger 45mm model is available for Rs 45,900.

When compared to its predecessor, the Pixel Watch 4, external design elements such as the round dial and silicone strap remain consistent, offering the familiar Pixel aesthetic. However, the primary advancements lie within the device, as Google has incorporated significant technical enhancements.

Under the new features, Gemini’s integration plays a central role, enabling the watch to execute tasks more efficiently from the wrist. Google claims that proactive suggestions will allow users to simplify multi-step actions into single taps, increasing user convenience.

Technical Specifications and Performance Improvements

The Pixel Watch 5 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated platform, which enhances its application processing capabilities. This new model is reported to feature 50 per cent more RAM alongside a 12 per cent improvement in CPU power, allowing for an overall performance boost of up to 20 per cent compared to its predecessor.

One of the standout improvements in the Pixel Watch 5 is its navigation capabilities. The updated GPS technology is said to offer double the accuracy of earlier models, utilising a combination of satellite data, 3D building models, weather information, and atmospheric corrections for precise route tracking, especially in complex environments.

For fitness enthusiasts, this smartwatch also provides a unique feature called Google Health Coach, which is guided by the capabilities of Gemini. This functionality offers tailored workout suggestions based on individual fitness goals and monitors sleep patterns and heart rate variability to adapt recommendations accordingly.

Health Monitoring and Safety Features

In addition to assisting users with workouts, the Pixel Watch 5 introduces the Health Guardian feature. This tool allows for close monitoring of various health metrics, providing monthly summaries that cover aspects such as blood pressure trends and sleep quality. A notable addition is the insulin-resistance tracking, aimed at assisting users in identifying long-term health changes.

Safety features on the Pixel Watch 5 have also been upgraded, with the ability to detect significant drops in oxygen saturation. In cases of severe breathing emergencies where the user is unresponsive, the watch can autonomously contact emergency services while sharing the user’s location.

Improvements in sleep tracking have been incorporated as well, with a reported 15 per cent enhancement over previous iterations. The watch can monitor heart rate and movement during sleep, while the Smart Wake function analyses sleep cycles, allowing for gentle wake-ups prior to alarm times.

The device’s display has also seen advancements, featuring a new 3,000-nit domed Actua 360 screen, which ensures visibility even in direct sunlight. Users can easily access health metrics, notifications, and other data on this new display.

Battery performance has also been optimised, boasting a 30-hour lifespan for the 41mm model and up to 40 hours for the 45mm model. Fast charging capabilities are included, providing users with quick top-ups as necessary.

The Pixel Watch 5 is offered in two sizes, 41mm and 45mm, allowing consumers to select the model that best fits their style and wrist size. New colour variants have been introduced, such as Fog, Canyon, and Olive, in addition to a unique Pyrite option and a special Stephen Curry Edition.
