Google Gemini Can Now Make Music: AI Generates Custom Made 30-Sec Original Tracks with Lyria 3

The CSR Journal Magazine

Google has unveiled an innovative music generation feature within its Gemini AI, allowing users to create original music tailored to their mood. This capability is powered by Lyria 3, an advanced model developed by Google DeepMind.

Users can effortlessly generate a 30-second track by simply entering a prompt or uploading a visual like a photo or video. The system is designed for ease of use, enabling individuals to create music just by articulating their thoughts.

Functionality of Lyria 3

The primary goal of Lyria 3 is to simplify the music creation process, allowing users to describe their ideas in straightforward language. For instance, prompts can include requests to create music inspired by a pet’s appearance or a humorous video concept.

After providing a prompt, Gemini generates a 30-second original audio track based on the user’s description. Notably, users are not required to upload separate lyrics as the system generates them automatically.

Technical Insights

According to Google, the technology behind this AI music generation draws from advancements made in Lyria 3, marking a significant improvement over previous models. The new version offers more realistic, layered, and expressive compositions.

Inside the application, users are also granted the ability to modify various elements such as style, tempo, and vocal tone, thereby offering a level of creative freedom. Google emphasizes that this tool is intended to generate personalized and engaging soundtracks rather than to serve as a substitute for professional music production.

Feature Availability

The rollout of this feature began on February 19, 2026. Initially, it is available on desktop, with mobile accessibility expected shortly thereafter. Participation is limited to Gemini users aged 18 and above, with support for eight languages including English, German, Spanish, French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese. Additionally, users subscribed to Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro, and Google AI Ultra will benefit from higher usage allowances.

Integration with YouTube

In a bid to expand the reach of its music generation capabilities, Google is also integrating Lyria 3 into YouTube through its Dream Track feature. This enhancement allows creators on the platform to easily craft background music customized for their videos, without the need for third-party licensing. The integration is set to broaden the availability of this tool to users outside of the United States.

Originality Focus

Google has highlighted that Lyria 3 is designed for original musical expression and is not intended to replicate the sounds or styles of existing artists. If a user includes a specific musician in their prompt, Gemini interprets this as broad inspiration instead of attempting to imitate that artist’s work. This emphasis on originality aims to foster creativity among users while adhering to ethical standards in music production.
