The CSR Journal Magazine

Flight operations at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata were briefly suspended on Thursday due to adverse weather conditions. This disruption lasted for about 20 minutes, coinciding with the delayed landing of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s aircraft. She was returning to Kolkata after participating in election rallies across the state.

According to the Public Relations Officer at Kolkata Airport, the delay was a precautionary measure necessitated by the weather. Before the suspension, it was announced that CM Mamata Banerjee’s flight had been unable to land as scheduled because of the conditions at the airport.

Mamata Banerjee Critiques BJP During Rally

In a public meeting held in Paschim Bardhaman, Mamata Banerjee expressed strong criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), focusing on issues related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. She claimed that the party’s actions were infringing on the rights of the people, stating, “Now they are being told they can’t eat meat, can’t eat eggs in their state, can’t speak Bengali, and even if they speak Bengali, they will be considered Bangladeshi.” She emphasized that many individuals faced severe consequences, including arrest and mistreatment, for their cultural identity.

Banerjee also challenged the BJP regarding the lack of transparency in electoral rolls, insisting that the public deserves to know whose names have been removed. She went on to state that despite the challenges, she has been at the forefront of this struggle, both on the streets and in the courts.

Commitment to Industrial Development in West Bengal

During her speech, the Chief Minister made a commitment to developing Birbhum, Bankura, and Bardhaman West into industrial hubs, should she be re-elected. “These regions will become industrial destinations in the near future,” she said, expressing personal connections to the area. “I also have a village in Birbhum. This is my ancestral land, my motherland… The soil of Birbhum is international soil, where dignitaries like Rabindranath were born.”

West Bengal’s elections are set to take place in two phases, on April 23 and April 29, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4. The political environment in the state has been increasingly dynamic as various parties gear up for the electoral battle.
