The father of Yuvraj Mehta, a 27-year-old software engineer who tragically drowned following a car accident in Greater Noida, has departed for London accompanied by his daughter. The family’s residence in Tata Eureka Park Society, located in Sector 150, is currently locked. Neighbors reported that Rajkumar Mehta mentioned he would return shortly as the family continues to cope with their loss and seek justice for the incident.
Details of the Incident
Yuvraj lost his life on January 16 when his vehicle fell into a deep, water-filled pit near the Sector 150 turn, a mere 500 meters from his home. According to accounts, he was returning from his workplace in Gurugram when the mishap occurred. Police officials believe that dense fog may have played a role in the accident. Reports indicated that his car broke through a drain wall and fell into a pit estimated to be between 20 and 30 feet deep.
Emergency Response and Rescue Efforts
Following the accident, Yuvraj managed to escape his vehicle momentarily and called his father to notify him of the situation. Rajkumar immediately contacted emergency services by dialing 112 and rushed to the scene. Responding teams, including police, fire brigade personnel, and members of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), arrived and commenced a rescue operation that lasted for several hours. Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes and remarked on delays in launching a full-scale rescue. It was noted that Yuvraj stood atop his sinking vehicle for nearly two hours, repeatedly calling out for assistance.
Final Moments and Recovery
Witnesses recalled hearing Yuvraj’s desperate pleas, including his last words to his father: “Papa help me. I don’t want to die.” He was reportedly heard shouting “Papa, bachao” as the vehicle gradually submerged in the water. He drowned around 1:45 AM. Despite the urgency of the situation, officials hesitated to enter the water at first, citing concerns about heavy fog, low temperatures, and the dangers posed by submerged iron rods. These conditions made the rescue efforts deemed “too dangerous.” Ultimately, after approximately four hours, Yuvraj’s body was recovered.
Community Efforts and Medical Findings
A delivery agent named Moninder attempted to assist in the rescue, tying a rope around his waist and swimming approximately 50 meters into the water. He searched for over 30 minutes but was unable to locate either the victim or the submerged vehicle. Moninder reported leaving the scene around 5:30 AM, unsure of what transpired afterward. The post-mortem examination indicated that Yuvraj died due to asphyxiation, with cardiac failure also listed as a contributing factor.
Investigation Initiated
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and the official response to the incident. The findings from the SIT have not yet been disclosed to the public, as the family pursues answers in the wake of this tragedy.
