Entry Rules Tightened for TVK Vijay’s Salem Rally After Karur Tragedy

The CSR Journal Magazine

In response to the tragic stampede in Karur last year that resulted in 41 fatalities, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has revised its entry Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for leader Vijay’s election campaign meeting scheduled for Friday in Salem.

The event will take place at KVP Garden in Seelanaickenpatti between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM, with attendance limited to 4,998 individuals as mandated by local law enforcement.

Authorities are enforcing stringent measures, including thorough verification of identity cards for party members and personnel at the venue. Attendees will only be permitted entry with QR code-embedded passes, ensuring compliance with safety protocols. These actions aim to uphold public safety and maintain order at the high-profile gathering, particularly in light of previous incidents involving overcrowding.

Police Arrangements and Traffic Management

To ensure security during the event, significant police presence has been established, along with vehicle inspections at various entry points and traffic redirections around the area. This effort is in line with the authorities’ commitment to preventing any potential disturbances and ensuring a smooth proceeding of the political activity.

A party cadre, Nitish, expressed enthusiasm about the event, noting that nearly 5,000 supporters have traveled from across Salem. He conveyed excitement for Vijay’s speech, anticipating key announcements regarding upcoming elections and potential alliances. However, the limit on attendance has left many supporters eager to hear their leader but unable to attend.

Live Streaming Arrangements for Wider Access

In addressing the limitations on attendance, TVK Salem District Secretary Parthiban acknowledged the disappointment among supporters unable to obtain entry passes. He highlighted that special arrangements have been made for live-streaming the event through various media and social media platforms, allowing for broader access to Vijay’s address.

Parthiban assured supporters that a public meeting hosted by Vijay will take place in Salem soon, emphasizing the party’s strength across the 11 constituencies in the region. He reiterated the eagerness among the cadre and fans to engage with their leader’s message, despite the constraints placed on attendance.

Official Inspections and Compliance Requests

Prior to the meeting, party officials including General Secretary N Anand, Election Management General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna, and Executive Committee Chief Coordinator KA Sengottaiyan conducted inspections of the arrangements. They also addressed media inquiries afterward to clarify the measures being enacted for the event.

Members of the public without entry passes have been advised to refrain from attending in person. They are encouraged to watch the proceedings through live broadcasts instead. The party has requested that attendees adhere to these new regulations to facilitate orderly management of the event.

Consequently, law enforcement is suggesting that the public avoid unnecessary travel along specified routes, directing individuals to utilize alternative paths to mitigate congestion during the event.
