“Don’t Jump to Conclusions: Air India CEO After Preliminary Crash Report”

The CSR Journal Magazine

A day after the preliminary report was released by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on the recent crash in Ahmedabad, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson urged employees and the public not to draw conclusions. In a written message to Air India staff, Wilson described the aftermath of the tragedy as “a period in which not a moment has gone by without thinking of the passengers, friends, colleagues, and wider community who were lost or injured.”

Opened Questions

Wilson said the preliminary findings brought clarity but also opened new questions: “We, along with the world, began receiving additional details about what took place.” He added that the report has triggered a new round of speculation in the mainstream media and requested that people focus on the findings rather than speculation.

“The preliminary report found no mechanical or maintenance issues with the aircraft or engines, and that all mandatory maintenance tasks had been completed. There was no issue with the quality of fuel and no abnormality with the take-off roll. The pilots had passed their mandatory pre-flight breathalyser tests, and there were no observations pertaining to their medical status.”

Aircraft Checked

Wilson shared that, out of caution, all Air India Boeing 787 aircraft have been inspected post the accident in Ahmedabad and “all were found fit.” He added that his team continues to perform all checks and will follow any additional directions from authorities.

Wilson urged patience and asked people not to jump to conclusions as the investigation is still ongoing. “Until a final report or cause is tabled, there will no doubt be new rounds of speculation and more sensational headlines.” He reiterated that Air India has played a transformative role in India’s aviation journey and has always focused on integrity, excellence, customer focus, innovation, and teamwork.
