Donald Trump Raises Concerns Over Health of Mojtaba Khamenei Amid Public Absence

The CSR Journal Magazine

In Washington, DC, on March 17, US President Donald Trump raised concerns regarding the health and visibility of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. During a discussion, Trump pointed out that Khamenei has not made any public appearances, leading to widespread speculation about his well-being. Various claims have surfaced, suggesting everything from serious injuries to his potential death. Trump remarked, “A lot of people are saying that he’s badly disfigured. They’re saying that he lost one leg, and he’s been hurt very badly. Other people are saying he’s dead.”

Absence Intensifies Rumors

Trump emphasized that the lack of public engagement from Khamenei has heightened concerns about his health. He stated, “Nobody’s saying he’s 100 per cent healthy.” He noted that the Iranian leader’s absence from the public eye is unusual. Trump specified, “We don’t know if he’s dead or not. I will say this: nobody’s seen him, which is unusual.”

Tensions Rise Between the US and Iran

The President’s remarks come amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. Following weeks of military confrontations and diplomatic strains, any information regarding Khamenei is scrutinized closely. Trump had previously indicated in a recent NBC News interview that he had heard unverified claims regarding the life status of the Iranian leader, stating, “I’m hearing he’s not alive, and if he is, he should do something very smart for his country, and that’s surrender.”

Demands for a Strong Peace Deal

Trump also reiterated that the US is not ready to accept terms proposed by Tehran for a peace agreement. He expressed his belief that any future deal must be robust, highlighting that Iran seeks to negotiate while asserting, “I don’t want to make it because the terms aren’t good enough yet.” Trump insisted that a critical condition for any potential agreement should be Iran completely abandoning its nuclear ambitions.

Concerns from US Military Officials

On a similar note, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth expressed aligned concerns on Friday, suggesting that Khamenei may be “wounded and likely disfigured” following recent military actions. Hegseth described a recent written statement from Khamenei as “weak,” and characterized the Iranian leader’s current state as “scared,” “injured,” and lacking legitimacy.

Appointment of New Military Adviser

In a move that could suggest a transition of responsibilities, Mojtaba Khamenei has appointed Mohsen Rezaei, a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, as his military adviser. This information was reported by Al Jazeera, citing Iran’s Mehr News Agency, amidst the prevalent discourse surrounding Khamenei’s health and strategic direction.
