The ongoing compensation dispute between actor Ranveer Singh and the makers of Don 3 has taken a formal turn, with the Producers Guild of India recommending that both parties pursue legal action after mediation efforts failed. Both sides have stood firm on their positions, making an industry settlement unlikely.
Stalemate Between Actor and Production House
The conflict centers on Ranveer Singh’s exit from the highly anticipated film Don 3, being produced by Excel Entertainment and directed by Farhan Akhtar. Following the actor’s departure, the production house approached the Producers Guild, seeking ₹40 crore in compensation for alleged financial losses incurred during pre-production and development.
Despite efforts to broker an agreement, the Guild has acknowledged its limited role in such disputes and suggested that legal teams take over, indicating the matter may now progress toward litigation.
Mediation Attempts Fall Short
Industry representatives including Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala, Ektaa Kapoor, Zoya Akhtar and Punit Goenka reportedly met at a gathering hosted at Aamir Khan’s residence in Mumbai to explore possible solutions. However, the discussions did not yield a resolution as both parties maintained rigid stances.
Ranveer is said to have presented emails and WhatsApp conversations supporting his perspective, while Excel Entertainment reiterated its demand for compensation. Neither side was willing to compromise.
Background of the Financial Dispute
The rift began after Ranveer’s sudden exit from Don 3. Excel claims the actor’s departure caused significant pre-production losses, including scheduling and development expenses, which form the basis of the ₹40 crore compensation demand. Ranveer, however, disputes the size of this liability and has indicated he does not accept full contractual responsibility for the alleged losses.
According to reports, Ranveer had initially offered to contribute a portion of compensation as a gesture of goodwill, but reportedly withdrew the proposal when faced with what his camp described as an excessive claim.
Uncertain Future for Don 3
With the Guild stepping aside and urging legal recourse, the future of Don 3 remains unclear. The decision to escalate the matter legally signals that an industry-level settlement is unlikely, and observers now expect the dispute to play out through formal judicial channels.
