Delhi Traffic Police Announces Diversions in Dwarka for Dussehra 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

As the national capital prepares for Dussehra festivities, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a warning regarding potential traffic diversions and restrictions in Dwarka on Tuesday, 20 October 2026. The advisory highlights that these measures are necessary due to expected VVIP movement and an increase in both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

According to a post on X, the traffic restrictions will be in effect from 4:50 PM to 8:00 PM. The areas likely to be affected include Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), Dwarka Expressway, and Road No. 224. Commuters are encouraged to avoid these routes if possible to reduce inconvenience during the celebrations.

The traffic police has advised individuals to plan their journeys in advance and allocate extra time for travel. This proactive approach aims to facilitate smoother transit during the busy period surrounding the festival.

Guidelines for Commuters During Dussehra

The advisory further emphasises the importance of parking vehicles only in designated areas, urging motorists to refrain from roadside parking. The traffic police has called on drivers to adhere to their instructions and exercise caution, particularly given the anticipated surge in pedestrian activity.

Central Range DCP Traffic K Ramesh stated that special traffic arrangements have been in place for the past ten days in anticipation of the Dussehra celebrations. With large crowds expected, Ramesh noted that the Delhi Traffic Police has deployed personnel in areas likely to experience significant footfall, including Hanuman Mandir and Delhi Gate.

Ramesh also mentioned that Ramlila events are being conducted at 43 locations across the district, with Durga Puja celebrations occurring at 16 sites. Police personnel have been stationed at these venues for the past nine days to ensure public safety and order during the festivities.

Security Measures and Public Safety Initiatives

Joint CP Suman Goyal highlighted the heightened vigilance of police forces due to anticipated high-profile visits and large public gatherings. She pointed out that special arrangements have been made to facilitate the movement of VIPs while ensuring minimal disruption for the general public.

Goyal noted that a considerable turnout is expected, with events taking place across the entire Western Range. Given the anticipated crowds and the sensitivity of the situation, the police department has implemented appropriate measures to manage the expected influx of attendees. This includes coordinating with the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) for additional support.

The primary objective remains to ensure that the festival concludes peacefully and smoothly, with a focus on maintaining public order and safety. Dussehra, also referred to as Vijayadashami, commemorates the victory of good over evil, symbolised by Lord Rama’s defeat of Ravana. The festival also marks the conclusion of the nine-day Navratri celebrations.
