Delhi Traffic Police Implement Restrictions in CR Park and Greater Kailash-II from October 16 to 20 for Durga Puja

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Durga Puja celebrations in South Delhi are set to attract large crowds to Chittaranjan Park (CR Park), Greater Kailash-II, and surrounding areas from October 16 to 20. To manage the anticipated influx of visitors, the Delhi Traffic Police will implement traffic restrictions daily from 4 pm until midnight. During these hours, private vehicles will not be permitted to enter CR Park and Greater Kailash-II, ensuring smoother traffic flow in the vicinity.

Authorities have noted that the Puja pandals are situated in residential areas characterised by narrow roads, which lack dedicated parking spaces for visitors. This situation is likely to contribute to significant congestion in the area, prompting the need for these restrictions.

Several major roads are expected to experience increased traffic during the Durga Puja celebrations. Key stretches include the Outer Ring Road between Vasant Vihar and Modi Mill Flyover, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg near CR Park, and August Kranti Marg between the Ring Road and Outer Ring Road. Additionally, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road between Khanpur and Jamia Hamdard, Guru Ravidas Marg between DDA Flats, Kalkaji, and Jamia Hamdard, as well as Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg between Khanpur and Chirag Delhi Flyover, will also see heightened activity. Josip Broz Tito Marg between Chirag Delhi Flyover and Moolchand Flyover, along with internal roads in and around CR Park and Greater Kailash-II, are similarly expected to face increased traffic pressure.

Recommendations for Commuters

In light of the anticipated congestion, the traffic police have advised commuters to avoid the aforementioned routes unless absolutely necessary. Visitors are encouraged to utilise the Delhi Metro as their primary mode of transport to reach the Puja venues. Designated drop-off points for taxis and auto-rickshaws have been established near Greater Kailash and Nehru Enclave Metro stations, facilitating easier access to the Puja pandals.

The advisory also stresses that unauthorised parking will not be tolerated in the affected areas. Vehicles parked illegally or obstructing traffic are likely to be towed, and action will be taken against their owners in accordance with the law. Taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers have been instructed not to stop on main carriageways to drop off passengers, as this could exacerbate traffic delays.

To ensure a smoother travel experience, commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance, depart early, and allow for additional travel time during the five-day celebrations. The traffic police have urged all road users to adhere to traffic regulations and follow the instructions provided by personnel stationed in the affected areas.

Cooperation with Traffic Personnel Requested

Authorities have appealed to both commuters and visitors to cooperate with traffic personnel to facilitate smooth traffic movement during the Durga Puja celebrations. By adhering to the guidelines and recommendations set forth by the traffic police, the public can contribute to a more organised and enjoyable festive atmosphere.

As the celebrations approach, the Delhi Traffic Police remain committed to ensuring public safety and efficient traffic management. The cooperation of all road users is essential in achieving these objectives, especially during this significant cultural event.

In summary, the traffic advisory highlights the importance of planning and adherence to regulations during the Durga Puja festivities. With the anticipated large crowds, the measures taken by the authorities aim to enhance the overall experience for devotees and visitors alike.
