The CSR Journal Magazine

Delhi Tourism is set to organise seven heritage and spiritual walks in Chittaranjan Park during the festive period of Durga Puja. This initiative is part of the broader “Dilli Sabki Hai” campaign, aimed at immersing visitors in the rich tapestry of Bengali traditions, spirituality, food, music, art, and community life. The walks will take place from October 11 to 19, focusing on presenting CR Park as a significant tourism destination, reflecting the coexistence of varied communities and cultural practices within the capital.

Details of the Walks

The heritage walks will provide participants with insights into the historical evolution of CR Park, alongside the various rituals and traditions associated with Durga Puja. Planned activities will include discussions on idol-making and craftsmanship linked to Kumartuli, the preparation of bhog, and exploration of well-known pandals and Bengali markets. Visitors can expect to enjoy traditional food, music, and heritage storytelling, enriching their understanding of the community’s living heritage. Bookings for the walks are available on the Delhi Tourism website for Rs 500 plus GST per person.

An official noted that the walks would facilitate interaction with local community members, enhancing the immersive experience related to the spiritual and cultural traditions of Durga Puja. A special prelude to the initiative occurred on October 7, when influencers were invited to CR Park to document the area’s unique traditions, culinary offerings, music, and the active participation of the community in festival preparations.

During the Durga Puja celebrations, CR Park transforms into a vibrant hub, showcasing intricately crafted idols, thematic pandals, and diverse rituals. The festivities encompass a variety of performances, including aarti, dhak, and cultural music, along with the preparation of Bengali cuisine and various handicrafts. The walks will highlight the significance of the Kali Mandir Society, eco-friendly immersion practices, and the artistic creativity reflected in pandal themes and idol craftsmanship.

Schedule of Events

The schedule for the heritage walks includes a morning session on October 11, from 8 am to 10.30 am, which will set the tone for the festivities. A pre-Puja evening walk on October 12, running from 5 pm to 8 pm, will delve into pandal preparations, the vibrant atmosphere of Bengali food markets, and heritage storytelling. Another evening walk is planned for October 14, focusing on art, craftsmanship, and community preparations in the run-up to the celebrations.

A Puja-eve walk on October 15 is designed to centre around the final preparations, emphasising both spiritual and heritage traditions of the Bengali community. The following day’s evening walk on October 16 will explore the rituals associated with the Puja, the unsung heroes behind prominent pandals, and the role of music and dhak in augmenting the festive experience. Lastly, the heritage walks will conclude with an Ashtami morning walk on October 18 from 8 am to 11 am, and a Navami evening walk on October 19, encompassing traditional rituals, pandal hopping, cultural activities, and delectable Bengali cuisine.

Conclusion

Through these curated heritage walks, Delhi Tourism aims to encapsulate the essence of CR Park during the Durga Puja festivities. By blending the historical, spiritual, and culinary dimensions of the celebration, visitors will gain a comprehensive understanding of one of Delhi’s prominent Bengali cultural hubs. This initiative not only promotes tourism but also fosters appreciation for the vibrant community life that flourishes in Chittaranjan Park during this auspicious occasion.
