Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh conducted a virtual review meeting on Wednesday with medical directors and superintendents of Delhi government hospitals to evaluate the region’s preparedness for H1N1, seasonal influenza, and other respiratory illnesses.
The meeting, attended by senior officials from the Health Department, focused on the availability of emergency services, isolation facilities, testing arrangements, medicines, and essential resources within hospitals. Singh emphasized the importance of enhancing preparedness by establishing dedicated flu corners, ensuring an adequate number of isolation beds, and maintaining sufficient medical supplies.
Hospitals were instructed to have a minimum of five isolation beds available, while larger facilities were advised to prepare ten or more beds for handling cases of influenza and vector-borne diseases. Special attention was directed towards the timely care and monitoring of children and elderly patients.
Additionally, Singh urged hospitals to facilitate immediate testing for patients exhibiting influenza-like symptoms and to ensure the availability of testing materials, including Viral Transport Medium (VTM), for sample collection.
The Delhi government reported 138 new H1N1 cases within the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the national capital in 2026 to 2,446. The total number of reported Influenza-A cases now stands at 3,177.
Minister Singh reassured citizens that there was no cause for concern, noting that most patients presented with mild symptoms and typically recovered within one to two days. “The purpose of this review meeting was to further strengthen hospital preparedness and ensure that every facility is capable of handling any situation effectively. Our doctors and medical teams are working with dedication, and we have reviewed the availability of beds, testing facilities, medicines, and emergency services,” the minister stated.
He also urged the public to adopt preventive measures, such as maintaining hand hygiene, wearing masks appropriately, practicing respiratory hygiene, and avoiding crowded areas if they exhibit flu-like symptoms.
The Health Department is actively monitoring influenza trends and is committed to ensuring sufficient testing facilities, isolation capacity, availability of medicines, and uninterrupted emergency services at Delhi government hospitals and health centers.
