The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has responded to recent media reports that have presented inaccurate information regarding its recommendations on influenza vaccination, particularly concerning H1N1. These reports appear to be based on an ICMR document aimed at medical practitioners, issued approximately two months ago, intended for clinical guidance.

ICMR has emphasised that this document does not constitute a new advisory, but rather serves to clarify existing recommendations. It has reiterated that the vaccine for the Northern Hemisphere is the preferred option; however, in instances where this is unavailable, the Southern Hemisphere vaccine remains a valid alternative as both vaccines are effective against the circulating H1N1 strain.
