Delhi Government Launches New Health Initiatives, Raises ASHA Worker Incentives and ANMOL Testing

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi government has initiated a series of health programmes aimed at improving health services in the capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu officially launched these initiatives under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ on Tuesday. The event took place at Thyagraj Stadium and was attended by Health Minister Pankaj Singh, emphasising the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare in Delhi.

Details of Significant Initiatives

Among the key initiatives introduced was the expansion of the ANMOL (Advanced Newborn Monitoring and Optimal Lifecare) scheme. This programme will allow for 56 different types of screenings and tests to be conducted using a single blood sample collected from newborns. The objective is to facilitate prompt identification and management of genetic, metabolic, and congenital disorders. Notably, these tests will be provided free of charge to families in need.

Additionally, during the launch, the headquarters of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) was inaugurated at GB Pant Hospital. This newly established centre will oversee the entire spectrum of organ donation and transplantation processes, ensuring patients in critical need receive timely assistance. Such measures aim to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of organ donation services in the region.

Further, an increase in incentives for ASHA workers was announced. The financial support for these health workers has been increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000. This enhancement is expected to benefit a total of 6,690 ASHA workers, thereby strengthening the crucial door-to-door health services they provide across the city.

Advancements in Nursing Home Management

A new Nursing Home Management System portal was also launched, aimed at streamlining operations associated with nursing homes. The portal is intended to make processes more transparent and accountable, thus enhancing the overall management of healthcare facilities. Reportedly, the goal is to improve the functioning of nursing homes to ensure better care standards for patients.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to ensure that health services become more accessible to all citizens. The government claims that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there’s a commitment to ensuring health protection reaches every segment of society, aiming for an inclusive approach to healthcare delivery.

The deliberate focus on expanding access and improving delivery systems indicates the government’s acknowledgment of the existing healthcare challenges faced by the community. With these initiatives, the Delhi government aims to address significant gaps in the healthcare framework, particularly for vulnerable populations, while enhancing the overall quality of medical services.
