Defender 110 To Be Locally Manufactured In India With Prices Starting At Rs 99 Lakh

The CSR Journal Magazine

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has initiated local production of the Defender 110 at its facility in Pune, marking a significant milestone as this is the first time the British luxury SUV will be manufactured in India. The locally produced Defender 110 will be available in the X-Dynamic HSE trim, featuring three different engine options, with the starting price set at Rs 99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Bookings for the vehicle are currently open, and deliveries are expected to commence on November 15, 2026.

This development positions India as the first market outside Europe to manufacture the Defender, thereby enhancing JLR’s local production capabilities. The company has stated that local manufacturing is aimed at reducing waiting times and improving accessibility for customers while maintaining the global engineering and durability standards that the SUV is known for.

Engine Options and Pricing Details

The Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE will come equipped with a choice of three engines: a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, a 3.0-litre petrol engine, and a 3.0-litre diesel engine. All engine variants will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and will feature Intelligent All-Wheel Drive technology. The ex-showroom prices for the variants are as follows: the 2.0-litre petrol version is priced at Rs 99 lakh, while both the 3.0-litre petrol and diesel versions are priced at Rs 1.18 crore.

Customers can place their orders for the Defender 110 through the official Land Rover India website or at any of the 32 authorised dealerships across the country. This local production strategy is expected to enhance the brand’s presence in the competitive luxury SUV market in India.

In addition to the competitive pricing, the locally manufactured variant includes several features that were previously available only as optional extras on the completely built-up (CBU) models. The 2.0-litre petrol version is equipped with features valued at up to Rs 6.5 lakh, enhancing its overall value proposition.

Enhanced Features and Specifications

Among the standard features for the 2.0-litre petrol version are Electronic Air Suspension with Adaptive Dynamics, Terrain Response 2, Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control, Wade Sensing, and a ClearSight Interior Rear View Mirror. The vehicle also includes three-zone climate control with rear cooling assistance, Cabin Air Purification Plus, and 14-way electrically adjustable front seats with heating, cooling, and memory functions.

The 3.0-litre petrol and diesel variants come with additional features valued at up to Rs 17 lakh. These include an Electronic Active Differential with Torque Vectoring by Braking, Configurable Terrain Response, and an enhanced cabin package. Other notable features are a Meridian Surround Sound System, head-up display, heated third-row seats, and climate-controlled rear seats, all contributing to a luxurious driving experience.

The Defender 110 maintains its rugged aesthetic and is constructed on JLR’s D7x architecture, which is designed for durability. The SUV has undergone rigorous testing under the company’s Extreme Event Test procedure, ensuring its performance in challenging conditions.

JLR’s Manufacturing History in India

JLR began its manufacturing operations in India in 2011 through a contract with Tata Motors, establishing its first facility outside the UK in Chakan, Pune. This facility has produced ten different JLR models for the Indian market. While the Defender 110 will now be manufactured locally, production for international markets will continue at JLR’s facility in Nitra, Slovakia, which will also produce other Defender body styles.

With the introduction of local production, JLR aims to solidify the Defender’s standing in India’s luxury SUV segment by combining its renowned off-road capabilities with a more comprehensive standard specification and potentially reduced waiting times for customers.
