Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Orders Early Chhath Festival Ghats Preparations

The CSR Journal Magazine

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has instructed officials to initiate preparations at Chhath ghats well in advance of the festival. This directive aims to ensure that devotees experience minimal inconvenience during the celebrations, which are set to take place from November 13 to November 16. Gupta’s orders were issued following her inspection of Soor Ghat in north Delhi, where she identified several areas requiring immediate attention.

During her visit, Gupta emphasised the importance of prioritising cleaning, repairs, lighting, and security measures. She stated that arrangements should be completed before the festival rather than waiting until the day of the event. The Chief Minister insisted that the government would not tolerate any negligence in the preparations, highlighting the need for a clean, safe, and convenient environment for all attendees.

Immediate Repairs and Enhancements Required

Gupta has mandated the prompt repair of various infrastructure elements, including dilapidated gates and rusted structures. She has also called for addressing sanitation issues, which are critical for the health and safety of the devotees. The Chief Minister’s directives include ensuring that all facilities are functional and suitable for use, rather than relying on temporary fixes for long-standing problems.

After assessing the lighting arrangements, Gupta directed authorities to enhance illumination on both sides of the ghat. She requested a thorough inspection and repair of all lighting fixtures to guarantee that the areas are well-lit for the festival. Adequate lighting is essential for the safety and comfort of the devotees who gather along the banks of the Yamuna River.

Additionally, Gupta has raised concerns regarding water arrangements at the ghats. She instructed officials to verify water connections and ensure that sufficient bathing facilities are available for the devotees. Her comments underline the necessity of comprehensive planning and execution of all necessary services to facilitate a smooth experience for those participating in the Chhath celebrations.

Focus on Sanitation and Basic Amenities

Gupta also expressed her apprehensions regarding the condition of toilets and other basic amenities at the ghats. She has ordered immediate cleaning and repair of these facilities to ensure they meet the standards required for public use. Gupta’s insistence on proper maintenance reflects her commitment to providing a dignified experience for all attendees during the festival.

The Chhath festival is a significant event for many devotees, who gather to offer prayers and pay homage along the riverbanks. With the festival approaching, Gupta has urged officials to complete all necessary preparations, including cleaning, repairs, lighting, and safety measures, well before the celebrations commence. This proactive approach aims to enhance the overall experience for devotees and ensure that the festival proceeds smoothly.

As the date of the festival draws near, the Delhi government is working diligently to meet the expectations set forth by the Chief Minister. By addressing the identified shortcomings and implementing the required improvements, officials aim to create a welcoming environment for the thousands of devotees who will participate in the Chhath festivities.
