Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Slams Congress, AAP for Protests Against CEC

The CSR Journal Magazine

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has strongly condemned the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), the Congress, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for their protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. During a press conference on Wednesday, she labelled the CJP as AAP’s “B-team” and accused these opposition parties of allegedly collaborating with foreign entities to undermine India’s interests. Gupta’s remarks come in the wake of ongoing protests in the national capital, which she claims are causing significant disruption.

Gupta specifically questioned the absence of protests in Punjab, where she highlighted recent violent incidents, including the murder of an anti-drug activist. She challenged the AAP to stage demonstrations in Punjab, asking, “Where does this CJP go when issues arise in those states?” Her comments aimed to draw attention to what she perceives as selective activism by the opposition.

Furthermore, Gupta raised concerns about the law and order situation in Punjab, stating, “Why isn’t your focus on Punjab? Just yesterday, a murder took place in the state.” She emphasised that drug-related crimes are rampant, and ordinary citizens are unable to voice their concerns.

Impact of Protests on Delhi’s Economy

During her address, Gupta attributed substantial financial losses in Delhi to the ongoing protests, claiming they amount to thousands of crores of rupees. She expressed that both traders and the general public are suffering as a direct result of the opposition’s actions. “Delhi has suffered losses worth thousands of crores of rupees today solely because of them,” Gupta stated, questioning the rationale behind the protests.

Gupta further elaborated on the implications of these demonstrations, arguing that they disrupt the functioning of a democratic system. She accused the opposition of staging protests out of frustration for their inability to form a government, stating, “Why do you want to stage sit-ins and protests? You want to oppose the system functioning in a democracy simply because you have failed to form the government.” Her comments reflect a broader critique of the opposition’s motives.

In her remarks, Gupta also highlighted the historical context of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), asserting that such revisions have been conducted numerous times in the past without any objections. She questioned why the opposition is raising concerns now, particularly when similar exercises were carried out during previous administrations.

Gupta’s Defence of the Special Intensive Revision

Gupta defended the SIR, stating that it is not a new initiative and has been part of the electoral process for years. She cited the last SIR conducted in Delhi in 2002, during a Congress-led government, questioning why there were no protests at that time. “Why weren’t such objections raised back then?” she asked, highlighting the inconsistency in the opposition’s stance.

She further pointed out that the AAP had benefited from the SIR when they came to power, implying that their current opposition to it is hypocritical. Gupta remarked, “Everything was fine when your government came to power after the SIR, but now that the people of Delhi have rejected you, you suddenly remember protests and sit-ins.” This statement underscores her view that the opposition’s actions are politically motivated.

In conclusion, Gupta alleged that the Congress and other parties are acting out of desperation following electoral defeats. She claimed they are attempting to create unrest in the country due to their perceived lack of political future. “They are hurt after losing power and are hence troubling the whole country for their political ambitions,” she asserted, framing the opposition’s actions as detrimental to national stability.
