CSR of SECL: School building and girls’ hostel under construction in Madhya Pradesh’s Dindori
A school building with seating capacity for 1200 students and a 100 seater girls’ hostel is being constructed in Madhya Pradesh’s Dindori district. This is a CSR initiative of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). The school and hostel is being constructed at Narmadanchal Vidyapeeth, Tribal Welfare Center Mahakoshal, Bargaon, Dindori.
South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Coal India Limited. It is one of the largest government-owned coal producers in the world and one of the highest coal producing companies of India. The coal mines of SECL are spread across the central Indian states of Chhatisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, hence the company’s CSR activities focus on the underprivileged people residing in these states. The above initiative is an attempt by thwe PSU to promote sustainable development and the educational needs of less privileged communities.
Recently, SECL’s Independent Director Dr. Shyam Agarwal visited the area to inspect the under construction schools and hostel in Dindori district. He was accompanied by SECL’s Director (Finance) G. Srinivasan and other representatives from the organisation.
“Expressing gratitude for the schools and hostel being created by SECL, officials at the Tribal Welfare Center appreciated this significant CSR activity and highlighted the positive impact that will have on the tribal community in the region,” the coal PSU announced on social media.

SECL ke Sushrut – Free residential coaching for NEET
SECL provides free residential medical coaching to students of Class 12th under its CSR initiative, “SECL ke Sushrut” or “SECL’s Sushrut”. The company mentors and provide coaching to students to help them prepare for the national medical entrance exam – NEET. The move aims to benefit students from poor economic background, especially in villages in coal belt areas of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Under the programme coaching is provided in partnership with a Bilaspur-based private coaching institute. The program is residential equipped with food and boarding facilities for students who have to sit for regular national-level test series.
Currently, 40 children from Coal mining areas of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are getting free residential NEET coaching in Bilaspur under the SECL’s Sushrut CSR programme.
Smart-classes in Government schools of Chhattisgarh
With SECL’s CSR support, smart classes have been set-up in 500 government schools of Korba district at an expenditure of about Rs 9 crore through the District Collector of Korba. The beneficiaries are mainly children belonging to tribal areas and underprivileged background. At least 113 smart classes have been developed through the district administration Raigarh in government schools built within 25 km radius of SECL’s office in Raigarh district. Apart from this, 83 smart-class facilities have been developed in schools in Raigarh, Dharamjaigarh, and Kharsia tehsils of Raigarh district.
