The project, sponsored through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds of the HT Parekh Foundation, aims to prevent bio-waste from reaching landfills, generate compost, recycle dry and hazardous waste, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Under this initiative, SPJIMR, Ekonnect Knowledge Foundation, and RUR Green Life Pvt Ltd will provide simple and effective infrastructure for proper waste collection, aerobic composting, and dry waste linkages to Bhavan’s Andheri Campus. The objectives of the programme are to prevent approximately 450 kg of bio-waste from reaching landfills during the project period, generate around 30 metric tonnes of compost, recycle five tonnes of dry and hazardous waste, and reduce 40-50 tonnes of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gas emissions.
The project will train 30+ housekeeping staff, improve the level of source segregation by up to 80%, and provide additional income opportunities through the sale of compost produced. The project aims to improve the knowledge and awareness of waste segregation, composting, and waste management This will enhance the resource efficiency and recycling index of products due to enhanced segregation levels.
