Congress Delegation Submits Memorandum to Delhi Lt Governor Regarding Youth Congress Chief’s Arrest

The CSR Journal Magazine

A Congress delegation, led by Ajay Maken, a Member of Parliament and Treasurer of the All India Congress Committee, along with Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav, met with Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The delegation presented a memorandum related to the arrest of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) chief Uday Bhanu Chib and other party members, following protests during the Artificial Intelligence Summit held in the capital. According to statements from the Delhi Lok Niwas, the Lt Governor expressed that the actions of the Youth Congress protesters were, at first glance, intended to undermine national dignity.

Statement from the Lieutenant Governor

As per the statement issued by the Delhi Lok Niwas, the Lieutenant Governor remarked that the protest was ill-conceived and reflected poorly on the nation. While receiving the memorandum, he indicated that the protest was not only poorly timed but also potentially harmful to India’s image during a significant international event. The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the AI Summit was an event representing India as a whole and not an individual or a political party. The remarks highlighted the necessity of maintaining national integrity on international platforms.

Demonstrations by Youth Congress Workers

In connection with the arrest of Uday Bhanu Chib, members of the Indian Youth Congress organized protests outside their office in New Delhi. These demonstrations took place under significant police supervision. Across the country in Jaipur, Rajasthan, state president and Sangaria MLA Abhimanyu Poonia led a foot march from the Congress office to the BJP state headquarters. Similar protests were reported in Kolkata, indicating widespread dissent among Youth Congress members regarding Chib’s detention.

Legal Proceedings for Uday Bhanu Chib

Earlier on the same day, a court in Patiala House granted the Delhi Police a four-day custody of Uday Bhanu Chib in relation to the protests at the AI summit. The police described Chib as the mastermind behind the protests, which involved four co-accused who are also in custody. This case touches upon issues of national security and sovereignty, prompting a heightened response from law enforcement. The court’s decision followed a request from the Additional Public Prosecutor, while examining the arguments presented by both the prosecution and Chib’s defense team.

Protest at the AI Summit Venue

Members of the Indian Youth Congress staged a protest at the Bharat Mandapam, the venue for the AI Impact India Summit. During the demonstration, protesters displayed slogans criticizing the Prime Minister, a statement marked by the removal of their shirts. The dissent highlighted issues related to the India-US trade agreement. Following the protest, seven Youth Congress leaders were taken into custody, underscoring the tensions surrounding the event and the actions of party members.
