BJP Misled Nitish Kumar and the Public: Tejashwi Yadav

The CSR Journal Magazine

Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly and prominent member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of deceiving both Nitish Kumar and the general populace. This statement follows Kumar’s resignation from the Bihar Legislative Council as he prepares to take a seat in the Rajya Sabha.

Yadav made these remarks during an interaction, drawing parallels between Kumar and Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who rose to the position following an alliance with the BJP in 2022. He stated that the RJD had anticipated Kumar’s departure from the Chief Minister’s office after the elections, suggesting that Kumar’s extended tenure had been a strategic ploy by the BJP.

Reactions to Kumar’s Resignation

The Chairman of the Bihar Legislative Council, Awadhesh Narain Singh, confirmed the acceptance of Nitish Kumar’s resignation. Singh expressed that Kumar’s exit is a source of sorrow for the state, given his long-standing service. Kumar’s recent election to the Rajya Sabha marked a significant turning point in his political journey, prompting his resignation from the Bihar state legislature. Spanning a political career that began with his election as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in 1985, Kumar became a Union Minister under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and first assumed the role of Chief Minister in 2005, initially as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Implications for Bihar Politics

Yadav emphasized that the disparity between the BJP’s commitments and their actual behavior has misled Kumar and the citizens of Bihar. He asserted that the BJP had orchestrated Kumar’s political maneuvers for their benefit and was now discarding him when it suited their agenda. The RJD leader indicated that Kumar’s situation resonated with several political movements, implying a pattern of betrayal among alliances.

Nishant Kumar Joins JD(U)

When questioned about Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar joining the Janata Dal (United), Tejashwi Yadav expressed a degree of welcome towards this political entry. However, he conveyed concerns about Nishant’s potential effectiveness within the party framework. Yadav reflected on the importance of capability in politics by stating that “his capability will tell us whether he is able to handle the party or not.” Despite Nitish Kumar’s previous stance against dynastic politics, Nishant’s recent involvement marked a notable shift as he officially joined JD(U) on March 8, soon after his father’s transition to the Rajya Sabha.

Nitish Kumar’s Legacy

Nitish Kumar’s comprehensive political journey illustrates a complex landscape of coalition politics in India. His career has been characterized by strategic alliances and ideological shifts, culminating in his long-standing role as Bihar’s Chief Minister. As Kumar steps into a new chapter within the Rajya Sabha, his resignation from the Bihar Legislative Council underscores the evolving dynamics of state politics, particularly in light of alliances that have shaped Bihar’s governance in recent years.
