Bihar Expected to Resume Mining Activities After October 15

The CSR Journal Magazine

Bihar’s Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, has stated that the state aims to resume its mining operations following October 15. During an event focused on the auction of critical and strategic mineral blocks in Patna, he noted significant advancements in the tender and allocation processes.

Choudhary informed attendees that the tender process for 28 mining blocks is currently underway. He expressed optimism that more than 30 blocks could be allocated by the end of September. This progress is seen as a critical step towards reinitiating mining activities, which have been stalled for a period.

The intention behind resuming mining is to bolster Bihar’s economic activity, as the state looks to leverage its mineral resources effectively. The auction and eventual commencement of mining operations are expected to yield revenue for the state, while also creating job opportunities and supporting associated industries.

Focus on Critical Minerals and Economic Development

The push for mining aligns with an increasing global demand for minerals, particularly those integral to emerging sectors such as renewable energy and electric vehicles. Chief Minister Choudhary has highlighted the importance of these critical and strategic minerals in fostering growth.

In conjunction with the mining announcement, the state government aims to attract significant investments, with Choudhary unveiling a target of Rs 5 lakh crore by November. Policy measures are being implemented to improve Bihar’s investment landscape, making it a more appealing destination for potential investors.

Further, the government is concentrating on employment and human resource development. Recently, the Chief Minister distributed appointment letters to candidates selected through the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission examination, showcasing the administration’s commitment to creating jobs in the region.

Broader Development Initiatives and Future Prospects

Choudhary’s recent Independence Day address on August 15 included several announcements focused on student welfare and employment initiatives. Notably, he launched the Vidyarthi Sahyog Portal, designed for students to submit grievances and receive government assistance, with a commitment to resolve such issues within 30 days.

The Chief Minister has set an ambitious goal of generating one crore jobs by 2030, linking this objective with the overall developmental agenda for Bihar. The government’s focus extends beyond mining, encompassing education reforms and infrastructure enhancement to promote sustainable growth.

With the ongoing tendering process for the identified mining blocks, the Bihar government is anticipated to swiftly move towards operationalising these blocks. The Patna event also featured a roadshow organised by the Union Ministry of Mines concerning the eighth tranche of auctions related to critical mineral blocks.

In light of these developments, the upcoming recommencement of mining activities is viewed as a vital component of Bihar’s strategy for industrial and economic growth. The government is expected to complete the allocation process in the coming weeks, paving the way for the resumption of operations.
