Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has donated Rs 2.70 lakh, representing his one-month salary, to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. This donation was made official on September 19, 2026, when he presented the cheque to his Secretary, Lokesh Kumar Singh, at the ‘Sankalp’ facility located in Lok Sevak Awas.

The Chief Minister appealed to the citizens of Bihar, particularly wealthy individuals, to contribute to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He expressed the necessity of collective support to effectively aid those impacted by disasters. The Chief Minister emphasised that the Relief Fund serves as a crucial tool in providing assistance to those facing difficulties.

During his address, Choudhary indicated that significant participation from society can enhance relief efforts and extend aid to a greater number of affected individuals. His call for donations aims to mobilise resources for quicker and more effective response measures during emergencies.

Responses to the Flood Situation

On September 18, Bharatiya Janata Party National President Nitin Nabin expressed deep concern regarding the ongoing flood crisis in Bihar. He highlighted the timely actions undertaken by the state government and the backing provided by the Centre. Nabin also disclosed his personal contribution of Rs 6,35,000, equivalent to three months’ salary as a Rajya Sabha Member, to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Nabin elaborated that efforts to assist affected families are ongoing, which include financial aid, the establishment of relief camps, and the assessment of crop damage. He reassured that the government remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the flood-affected population and is continuously monitoring the situation.

The National President noted that over Rs 550 crore has already been disbursed to aid families adversely affected by the flooding, with each family receiving Rs 7,000. Nabin provided further insights into the operational measures in place, such as ensuring the availability of relief camps, community kitchens, medical facilities, and fodder for livestock in the impacted areas.

Scale of the Flood Impact

According to the Disaster Management Department, the floods have adversely affected approximately 49.67 lakh individuals across 15 districts in Bihar. The districts impacted include Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Munger, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Purnea, Madhepura, and Araria.

The government has deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams to assist in rescue operations and is actively assessing the damage to crops. As relief and rescue operations continue, the authorities are working diligently to ensure that necessary assistance reaches all affected residents.

The support extended by the Central Government has also involved visits to disaster areas, with Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan engaging directly with victims and reviewing ongoing relief efforts. He reassured the public of a committed approach from the government towards alleviating the hardships faced by those affected by the floods.
