Bengaluru’s Kadak Singh Da Dhaba Temporarily Closed due to LPG shortage

The CSR Journal Magazine

Restaurateur Kawaljeet Singh, based in Gurgaon, has announced the temporary closure of his recently established outlet, Kadak Singh Da Dhaba, in Bengaluru. The closure is attributed to a shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which has been exacerbated by the ongoing tensions in West Asia. Singh shared the news on social media, expressing the difficult nature of this decision following the restaurant’s recent launch.

In his post, Singh mentioned, “We have to remain closed temporarily due to gas shortage in Bangalore. My heart is broken but the spirits are alive. We will come back stronger once the gas situation improves.” The announcement quickly gained traction online, amassing over 200,000 views within a few hours, prompting numerous inquiries about the LPG shortage’s impact on the food industry within Bengaluru.

Responses from users included personal accounts of similar disruptions affecting various eateries and cloud kitchens that rely heavily on LPG cylinders for their cooking needs. As discussions evolved, many users began suggesting alternative cooking methods that could be adopted in the face of ongoing supply issues. Induction cooktops were mentioned as a potential short-term solution, with some comments highlighting that they may prove to be more cost-effective than conventional LPG cylinders, especially if prices rise due to scarcity.

However, transitioning to induction cooking is not straightforward for many commercial kitchens. Adopting this technology would necessitate the use of specific cookware suited for induction stoves, along with potential changes to established cooking processes that many establishments may not be prepared to implement immediately.

Despite the concerns voiced by the food industry, government officials have reiterated that there is no nationwide crisis regarding LPG supply. They have indicated that refinery production has been increased by approximately ten percent to help stabilize availability and mitigate disruptions. Nevertheless, signs indicate that the shortage has begun to affect various sectors within the food industry.

Reports indicate that food delivery services, including major platforms such as Zomato and Swiggy, are observing a significant decline in order volumes in certain regions, as numerous restaurants and cloud kitchens face operational challenges without a stable LPG supply. The situation continues to evolve as members of the food industry seek solutions to adapt to the LPG shortage.
