Baloch Activists Protest in Busan, Urge Global Action Over Rights Violations in Balochistan

The CSR Journal Magazine

On March 23, members of the Baloch National Movement (BNM) organized a protest in Busan, South Korea, to voice their opposition to Pakistan’s policies in Balochistan. The activists accused the Pakistani government of ongoing and systemic human rights abuses, urging the global community to intervene. This protest was part of a broader campaign that has been active from March 10 to April 9, aiming to shed light on what these activists characterize as decades of oppression and violence against the Baloch people. Protest leaders emphasized that their movement is focused on seeking justice rather than expressing hostility.

Allegations of Enforced Disappearances and Killings

During the demonstration, speakers made alarming claims regarding the prevalence of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan. According to figures presented by BNM’s Human Rights Department, over 1,300 cases of enforced disappearances and more than 200 killings were reportedly documented in 2025. They asserted that this troubling pattern has continued into the year 2026, with over 200 disappearances recorded in the initial two months alone. Activists described a pervasive atmosphere of fear in Balochistan, suggesting that individuals—including students, educators, and political activists—are often apprehended without due legal process.

Concerns Over Collective Punishment and Resource Exploitation

Protesters further alleged that security forces have implemented tactics resulting in collective punishment, targeting entire families and communities under the pretext of combating terrorism. Activists argued that while Balochistan is endowed with significant natural resources, including valuable minerals, its residents continue to grapple with severe poverty, hunger, and insecurity. This disparity was a focal point of the demonstrations, illustrating the perceived neglect by the Pakistani state concerning the welfare of the Baloch populace.

Calls for International Intervention and Support

The protestors appealed to the international community, particularly democratic nations, emphasizing the urgent necessity for accountability regarding reported human rights violations in Balochistan. They urged the establishment of an independent investigation led by the United Nations to examine the circumstances in the region and to hold the Pakistani government responsible for any abuses that may have occurred. The activists also highlighted the Baloch people’s right to self-determination and the need for international endorsement of this objective.

Appeals to the South Korean Government

In a direct appeal to the South Korean government, demonstrators called for increased diplomatic pressure on Pakistan, advocating for Seoul to actively support international oversight of the situation in Balochistan. The protest underscored the international dimension of the plight faced by the Baloch people, highlighting the necessity for a global response to what activists claim are severe breaches of human rights occurring within the region.
