Attacks in Ukraine by Russian forces killed as many as 24 civilians in the country as Zelensky seeks more Western help. With the increasing civilian toll in the Dnipro attack, schools are being closed for summer vacations in Kyiv, where Russian missiles and artillery have killed and injured more than 200 people.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sought guarantees at the NATO summit for further Western help in his country’s effort to fight back against the Russian invasion. On Tuesday, Zelensky was set to meet Western leaders attending the NATO summit in the Netherlands in the hope of securing additional military support for Ukraine’s fight against Russia’s large army. Recent direct talks between the two countries have delivered no progress or possibility of settlement. There is uncertainty over whether U.S. President Donald Trump will provide further support that was promised during the Biden administration’s term.

Russian forces have constantly blasted civilian areas of Ukraine throughout the course of the war, which has now entered its fourth year. More than 12,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed, according to those responding to the Russian aggression. Ukraine has also launched long-range drones against Russia to hit its residential areas.
The recent Russian ballistic missile attack on Dnipro killed many civilians at a site in the central Ukrainian city around midday on Tuesday. In the nearby town of Samar, an attack killed two people and injured 14, according to a Telegram post by the regional administration head of Dnipro, Serhii Lysak. The barrage damaged 19 schools, 10 kindergartens, vocational schools, a social welfare office, and a music school.
One of the blasts blew out the windows of a passenger train carrying 500 people.
