Assam Rifles Busts Illegal Interstate Tout Operation, Four Arrested in Silchar

The CSR Journal Magazine

On March 26, members of the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Cachar Police, successfully executed an operation that dismantled a functioning illegal interstate tout network in Silchar. The operation was conducted based on specific intelligence that indicated the network was engaged in organized illegal entry of foreign nationals from neighboring countries, particularly Bangladesh and Myanmar, through the states of Tripura and Mizoram.

Additionally, the network was implicated in facilitating the illegal exit of foreign nationals from India, including individuals facing criminal charges, deportation, and violations of visa regulations.

Individuals Apprehended

During the operation, four individuals were taken into custody. Among them was a 44-year-old Nigerian national, Emeka, alongside three Indian nationals: K Malsawmdawngi from Aizawl, and Tinku Hussain Barbhuiya and Ramina Begum Barbhuiya from Silchar. Information gathered during the investigation indicated that this group played a significant role in promoting illegal cross-border movements, which raises serious concerns regarding national security and immigration management.

Related Operations by Security Forces

In a related series of operations earlier in March, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, working closely with Manipur Police, conducted targeted, intelligence-based operations across various districts, including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Chandel, Kakching, Thoubal, and Tengnoupal from March 15 to March 21. These coordinated efforts resulted in the apprehension of thirteen operatives belonging to both hill and valley-based groups. The operations also led to the recovery of fifty-seven weapons, explosives, and other military-grade materials.

Previous Engagement on the Indo-Myanmar Border

On March 15, Assam Rifles intercepted and apprehended five operatives affiliated with the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) near Border Post 73 along the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal District. This operation further illustrates the ongoing efforts by security forces to address and curb illegal activities along the borders.

Significance of the Operations

The recent operations by Assam Rifles highlight the relentless efforts of security institutions to maintain law and order, prevent unauthorized immigration, and ensure national safety. The operation that led to the arrest of the tout network is a part of continued vigilance and proactive measures undertaken by the Assam Rifles and cooperating law enforcement agencies to protect the integrity of the country’s borders and safeguard against potential threats.
