Apple Launches HomePod Mini 2 for ₹18,900 in India

The CSR Journal Magazine

Apple has introduced the HomePod mini 2, marking the first update to its compact smart speaker since its initial release in 2020. The new model retains the same design as its predecessor while incorporating several enhancements, including an upgraded S10 chip and additional colour options. Furthermore, Apple plans to roll out support for Siri AI through a software update in the future, enhancing the speaker’s capabilities within smart home environments.

Features and Enhancements

The HomePod mini 2 is equipped with Apple’s S10 chip, which is designed to optimise dynamic range, loudness, and acoustic performance in real time. Despite its small size, the speaker delivers 360-degree audio, allowing users to enjoy music in a comprehensive sound experience. Users can operate a single unit, pair two speakers for stereo sound, or connect multiple units for seamless playback throughout various rooms.

One significant enhancement is the upcoming integration of Siri AI, which is expected to facilitate more natural conversations and improve music discovery. When paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, the upgraded assistant will be capable of handling requests that involve information across various applications. For instance, users may ask the device to locate a song mentioned in a message or set reminders linked to calendar events.

Additionally, the HomePod mini 2 can recognise up to six distinct voices within a household, allowing it to tailor music selections and responses accordingly. Another innovative feature is Sound Glow, which synchronises the speaker’s top surface lighting with the music, responding dynamically to bass and treble. Users can also select ambient soundscapes, such as rain, to trigger corresponding lighting effects.

Smart Home Integration and Control

The HomePod mini 2 serves as a hub for controlling compatible smart home devices, including lights, blinds, thermostats, and door locks. It can also function as a central control point through Apple’s Home app, enabling remote management of connected devices. Furthermore, the speaker includes Sound Recognition technology, which can detect smoke or carbon monoxide alarms and send alerts to connected Apple devices, enhancing home safety.

In terms of entertainment, the HomePod mini 2 can be paired with the new Apple TV 4K, allowing users to create a four-speaker surround-sound setup. This feature enhances the overall audio experience for movies and television shows, providing an immersive listening environment.

Pricing and Availability in India

The HomePod mini 2 is priced at ₹18,900 in India, with pre-orders currently open. The speaker is set to be available starting October 30, 2026. Customers will have a choice of five colours: pink, green, blue, white, and midnight. Although the new hardware is ready for launch, the Siri AI feature will not be available immediately, with plans for its introduction through a future software update. English support for Siri is expected to be available in India, as well as in the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK.

As Apple continues to innovate within the smart home market, the HomePod mini 2 represents a significant step forward in enhancing user experience through improved technology and features. The integration of Siri AI is anticipated to further elevate the functionality of the device, making it a valuable addition to modern households.
