Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Visits Families Affected by Vetlapalem Explosion

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan visited the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Kakinada to offer condolences to the families of victims of a catastrophic explosion that occurred at a firecracker manufacturing facility in Vetlapalem. The tragic incident took place on Saturday, resulting in the fatalities of 18 individuals. According to local authorities, several others sustained critical injuries in the explosion.

Government Response and Investigation

The Collector and District Magistrate, Sagili Shan Mohan, provided details regarding the situation and the ongoing response efforts. Following the explosion, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu held discussions with officials about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Chief Minister sought updates on the rescue operations and the safety measures being implemented at the accident site. Reports indicate that approximately 20 workers were present at Surya Fire Works when the explosion occurred, raising concerns about workplace safety regulations in such facilities.

Expressions of Sympathy from National Leaders

In light of the tragic event, Chief Minister Naidu expressed his sorrow over the significant loss of life among firecracker workers and ordered that ministers and senior officials visit the site to assess the situation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also offered his condolences, stating that he was deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the Kakinada district explosion. Prime Minister Modi extended his sympathies to the families affected and announced that an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased individual. Furthermore, he mentioned that those injured in the incident would receive Rs. 50,000 in financial assistance.

Home Minister Acknowledges the Incident

Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his condolences to the victims’ families, highlighting the gravity of the tragedy. This incident not only underscores the dangers associated with firecracker manufacturing but also raises questions about compliance with safety protocols in similar facilities across the region.

As local authorities continue to investigate the causes of the explosion, the focus remains on providing support to the affected families and ensuring that such incidents are prevented in the future.
