Amit Shah to Attend Nitin Nabin’s Nomination Filing in Patna

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Patna on Thursday to participate in the nomination filing of Nitin Nabin, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President, who will be contesting as the party’s candidate from Bihar.

This visit coincides with the BJP’s recent announcement of its first list of candidates for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha biennial elections, which includes nine nominees from six different states. The party’s Central Election Committee made the announcement from its headquarters in New Delhi.

Selected Candidates from Various States

In Bihar, besides Nitin Nabin, the BJP has also fielded Shivesh Kumar as its candidate. For Assam, the party has nominated Terash Gowalla and Jogen Mohan. Laxmi Verma will represent the BJP from Chhattisgarh, while Sanjay Bhatia has been selected as the candidate for Haryana. In Odisha, Manmohan Samal and Sujeet Kumar will contest on behalf of the party, and Rahul Sinha has been chosen as the candidate from West Bengal.

Additional Nominations in Maharashtra

Earlier in the day, the BJP announced four candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections in Maharashtra, which includes Union Minister Ramdas Athawale and BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde among the others. Ramdas Athawale, the chief of the Republican Party of India, is poised to secure another term in the Upper House, while Vinod Tawde aims to enter the Rajya Sabha for the first time. The other nominated candidates from Maharashtra are Ramrao Wadkute and Maya Chitaman Ivnate.

Election Timeline and Polling Details

The Election Commission of India has scheduled polling for the upcoming Rajya Sabha biennial elections on March 16. Counting of votes will also take place on the same day at 5 PM, with the entire process expected to conclude by March 20. The elections will fill 37 seats across ten states, including Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana, whose current members’ terms are set to expire in April 2026.

Election Process and Key Dates

The notification for the elections was issued on February 26, marking the start of the electoral process. Potential candidates must submit their nominations by March 5, with scrutiny of nominations taking place on March 6. The last day for candidates to withdraw their nominations is March 9.
