Four-day long Ambubachi Mahayog, an annual event, started at Nilachal Hills on Sunday. After 2:56 pm, priests performed puja and closed the sanctum, which will remain closed till the morning of June 26. This period is symbolised as the menstruation period of Goddess Kamakhya.
Lakhs of devotees, including sadhus, spiritual speakers, and devotees from India and across the globe, reached the festival that is also known as the Mahakumbh of the East. This year, it is estimated that over 20–25 lakh pilgrims will be visiting and doing sadhna at the temple premises.
