Maharashtra TET Paper Leak Case Results in Judicial Custody for All Accused

The CSR Journal Magazine

A court in Bhiwandi has placed all 18 individuals accused in the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) paper leak case under judicial custody until October 14. This decision was confirmed by defence lawyer Shailesh Gaikwad, who stated that the two accused previously in police custody since September 20 have also been remanded to judicial custody.

According to Gaikwad, the police have not substantiated any progress in the investigation, prompting them to request an extension for judicial custody. He highlighted that police did not report any advancements in tracking financial transactions, exchanges of money, payments to buyers, or issues surrounding the leaked question papers during the custody period.

Gaikwad also mentioned that the remaining 16 accused were scheduled for a hearing connected to their judicial custody. Currently, the case is at the charge-framing stage, and further details regarding bail or the trial process are expected to emerge starting Monday.

Background of the Paper Leak Incident

The Maharashtra TET, originally set for June 28, 2026, was postponed on June 27 due to allegations of question paper leaks. The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) made the announcement following reports of individuals in Bhiwandi who possessed leaked information relating to the exam.

Prior to the postponement, the MSCE had taken precautionary measures inspired by irregularities noted during the NEET 2026 examination. However, the revelations concerning the TET prompted a police inquiry in Bhiwandi. Investigators performed a raid at a location in the area, where they discovered several questions in an unauthorised question paper that corresponded with the actual TET exam paper.

Following these findings, the Bhiwandi Police initiated a case against those suspected of being involved, leading to both the postponement of the examination and the commencement of an extensive investigation. In a public notice, the Maharashtra State Council of Examination announced the suspension of the TET, citing the need for a thorough inquiry into the ongoing situation.

Investigation and Next Steps

The ongoing investigation into the Maharashtra TET paper leak is of significant importance as it involves potential misconduct affecting educational qualifications for aspiring teachers. As the judicial custody of the accused continues, the police are expected to intensify their investigation and provide concrete findings.

Law enforcement is also tasked with unraveling the complexities surrounding the alleged financial transactions associated with the leak. The implications of the case extend beyond the immediate individuals involved, raising concerns about the integrity of examination processes. Consequently, this situation may result in additional scrutiny of security measures employed during examinations in the future.

The case’s progression towards the charge-framing stage indicates that it is moving forward within the judicial system. The upcoming hearings will likely shed light on the evidence collected and the strategy that will be employed by both the defence and the prosecution in this matter. Stakeholders are awaiting updates, including details surrounding bail opportunities for the accused and any potential reforms to examination oversight moving forward.
