WB Govt Sets Up High-Level SIT to Probe Satyajit Ray Film Institute Incident

The Government of West Bengal has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the recent incident at the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI). The decision follows three separate (FIRs) filed at the Panchasayar Police Station under the Kolkata Police jurisdiction in connection with the event on September 27, 2026.

According to a notification issued by Home Secretary Sanghamitra Ghosh on September 29, 2026, from Nabanna, the state administrative headquarters, the SIT will investigate complaints against individuals, corporate bodies, and other entities involved in the incident.

Key Details of the Investigation Panel:

* Lead Supervision: Shri Kunal Agarwal, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Kolkata Police, will oversee the SIT.

Team Members:

* Smt. Sparsha Nilangi, IPS, Deputy Commissioner, Detective Department, Kolkata Police

* Shri Kaushik Ghosh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, CID, West Bengal

* Shri Salil Roy, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Anti Rowdy Section, Kolkata Police

* Shri Tushar Kanti Ghosh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Eastern Suburban Division, Kolkata Police

* Shri Hirak Dalapati, Inspector, Detective Department, Kolkata Police

The order authorizes the SIT to draw additional personnel and officers from both the West Bengal Police Directorate and the Kolkata Police Directorate as needed. The team has been directed to submit its initial findings to the state government by October 1, 2026.
