Prasidh Krishna Excluded From Third ODI Against West Indies, Anshul Kamboj to Replace Him

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out of the third One Day International (ODI) against the West Indies due to a left hamstring injury sustained during the second ODI played in Guwahati. This decision means that Krishna will not participate in the final match of the three-match series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Anshul Kamboj will replace Krishna in the squad.

The injury was a setback for Krishna, who is regarded as an important player in the team. His absence is significant, given the pressure and expectations associated with the concluding match of the series. The BCCI made this announcement via a formal press release, ensuring that the information was disclosed promptly to avoid speculation.

India has already established a commanding 2-0 lead in the ODI series against the West Indies, having achieved decisive victories in Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati. This solid performance has put the team in a strong position as they prepare for the final match.

Washington Sundar Withdrawn for T20I Series

Washington Sundar has also been withdrawn from India’s T20I squad for the series against the West Indies. The decision comes as the team begins to focus on the forthcoming ICC World Test Championship series scheduled against New Zealand. Naman Dhir has been named as Sundar’s replacement in the T20I setup, marking a significant opportunity for the newcomer.

The BCCI stated that the Senior Selection Committee made this decision in consultation with the team management. The committee considered the upcoming Test series and the commencement of the Ranji Trophy season on October 11. Sundar is expected to participate in red-ball cricket for his state team, allowing him to prepare adequately for the Test challenges ahead.

Naman Dhir, who made his ODI debut in the series opener against the West Indies last week, will now use this opportunity to showcase his skills in the T20 format, further integrating into the national setup. His inclusion reflects the board’s strategy to foster new talent while balancing the players’ workload.

India’s Updated Squads for ODI and T20I Matches

The announcement includes updates to India’s ODI and T20I squads. The updated ODI squad now features Shubman Gill as captain, alongside notable players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul, who also serves as vice-captain and wicketkeeper. Additional players include Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Mohammed Siraj, among others.

For the T20I series, Shreyas Iyer will lead the team, supported by players like Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson as wicketkeepers. The presence of Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravi Bishnoi also assures a blend of experience and youth in the squad. The team management is optimistic that these changes will enhance performance as they face the West Indies.

These strategic adjustments highlight the BCCI’s commitment to maintaining a competitive edge across formats. By integrating emerging talents like Naman Dhir while managing seasoned players’ workloads, the organisation aims to bolster its prospects in both series against the West Indies and upcoming tournaments.
