The CSR Journal Magazine

OnePlus is gearing up to unveil its next flagship device, the OnePlus 16, in China on October 12. The tech giant has been actively teasing the smartphone to generate excitement among potential buyers. Detailed information has surfaced regarding its powerful chipset, display capabilities, and high-end camera configuration. Recently, OnePlus disclosed specifics about the battery the device will utilise.

Li Jie Louise, an executive from the company, has confirmed on Weibo, a widely used Chinese social media platform, that the OnePlus 16 will feature an impressive 9,000mAh battery. This represents a significant enhancement over its predecessor, the OnePlus 15, which is equipped with a 7,300mAh battery. Insights from the 2026 OnePlus Gaming Conference suggest that the OnePlus 16 might cater to gamers, similar to the OnePlus 15, but with an even stronger focus on gaming performance.

Key Features of OnePlus 16

The OnePlus 16 will utilise Qualcomm’s advanced Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset and will be the first smartphone from OnePlus to operate on ColourOS 17 from the outset. The device’s display is expected to support a 165Hz refresh rate during regular use and is capable of reaching up to 185Hz during gaming, significantly enhancing the user experience.

OnePlus has publicly confirmed that the phone will natively support 185 frames per second for specific gaming titles, including Arena Breakout, Nizhan: Future, Naruto Mobile, and Peace Elite. Additionally, a specifically designed three-chip esports system will manage the display, touch response, and connectivity independently, which is likely to amplify the gaming experience. The phone will be equipped with a new Fengchi Gaming Kernel aimed at sustaining high frame rates over extended gaming sessions.

For photography enthusiasts, the OnePlus 16 is expected to come with a 200-megapixel primary camera and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. The device will be available in three colour variants, catering to a range of aesthetic preferences. Early benchmark tests indicate that a configuration featuring 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage has achieved over 5.38 million points on AnTuTu.

Anticipated Specs and Global Launch

The recent announcement about the battery aligns with information from tipster Digital Chat Station, who previously indicated that the OnePlus 16 would indeed feature a 9,000mAh battery. This source also suggested that the device will support 100W wired and 50W wireless charging technologies. Additional reports indicate that the camera assembly may encompass a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, as well as a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a maximum of 6x lossless zoom capabilities.

On the front, the phone is poised to incorporate a 50-megapixel autofocus camera for selfies. Leaks have hinted at reduced bezels compared to the OnePlus 15, likely contributing to a more modern design. While plans for the China launch are solidifying, the global launch is expected to take place in November; however, details regarding the Indian launch remain ambiguous.

There are suggestions that OnePlus may bypass the standard OnePlus 16 in India, potentially opting to introduce the OnePlus 16R instead, but the company has yet to confirm such claims. As the launch date approaches, more information may emerge about the company’s strategic decisions for different markets.
