Saudi Arabia Transfers Flydubai Co-Pilot To UAE Amid Investigation Of Midair Stabbing

The CSR Journal Magazine

Saudi Arabian officials have handed over the Flydubai co-pilot, who allegedly stabbed the flight’s captain during a midair incident, to United Arab Emirates authorities. This transfer occurs as investigators work to uncover the motives behind the alarming attack on the commercial airliner, which was en route to Israel.

The aircraft reportedly experienced a sudden descent following the stabbing of Captain Smit Machchhar. Fortunately, passengers on board intervened, assisting the other cockpit crew in regaining control of the situation. All 174 individuals aboard survived the frightening event, although the incident has raised significant concerns regarding airline security and potential terrorist links.

As the UAE authorities investigate, they are looking into possible connections between the co-pilot’s actions and terrorism, according to reports. The ongoing developments are crucial for understanding the broader implications of the attack.

Statements From Officials

US President Donald Trump commented on the incident, suggesting a possible link between the Flydubai co-pilot and Iran. He acknowledged that preliminary information indicated a potential connection. While speaking to reporters, Trump stated, “I would say the answer, based on what I’m hearing, is yes, but we’re working on it right now.”

When asked whether the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had any involvement, Trump hinted at a possible connection but did not provide definitive answers. This statement was made in the context of ongoing investigations by multiple governmental agencies.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on the situation by stating that it was premature to confirm any Iranian links. Nonetheless, he did mention that the authorities are scrutinising the co-pilot’s background for indications of ideological influence and prior planning.

Ongoing Investigations And Findings

In light of the incident, Michal Maayan, spokesperson for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, elaborated on the investigations. She confirmed that officials are examining the possibility of Islamist radical indoctrination in the co-pilot’s background. Maayan indicated that investigators are exploring various angles, including the potential for accomplices and notes of prior planning.

Earlier in the day, Netanyahu disclosed that the co-pilot is currently undergoing interrogation. He stated that initial findings suggested that the co-pilot had a suicidal disposition and may have intended to crash the aircraft. The Prime Minister described a harrowing scene where crew members had to restrain the co-pilot with earphone cords and plastic cuffs.

He revealed that during this stressful situation, the assailant was heard demanding the crew to “kill me, kill me,” illustrating his mental state. As a result of the quick actions taken by the crew and passengers, the aircraft was safely diverted and landed at Tabuk in Saudi Arabia. Following medical attention, Captain Machchhar is now reportedly in stable condition and under observation in Abu Dhabi.
