The CSR Journal Magazine

HDFC Bank has confirmed the appointment of Anup Bagchi as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, a position he will hold for a period of three years starting from October 27, 2026. This announcement follows the approval granted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The decision for leadership change comes as the current MD and CEO, Sashidhar Jagdishan, prepares to conclude his tenure at the bank on October 26, 2026.

Regulatory Approval and Board Decisions

As per the statement released by HDFC Bank identifying this leadership shift, the RBI’s approval encompasses Bagchi’s role as MD and CEO, alongside the remuneration associated with the position. This approval was given under Section 35B of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, which governs banking institutions in India. Following this sanction, the bank’s board has also endorsed Bagchi’s appointment pending final approval from shareholders.

Effective from October 2, Bagchi will take on the additional role of Additional Director at HDFC Bank. His term as MD and CEO is set to conclude on October 26, 2029, thereby establishing a continuity of leadership as the bank transitions to a new management phase.

In carrying out this transition, HDFC Bank aims to leverage Bagchi’s significant experience in the financial sector. His varied expertise is anticipated to benefit the organisation significantly.
