Gurindervir Singh and Animesh Kujur Fail to Reach 100m Final at Asian Games

Gurindervir Singh and Animesh Kujur did not qualify for the men’s 100m final at the Asian Games 2026, taking place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. In the semifinal heats, Gurindervir finished in fifth place, while Animesh placed seventh, marking the end of their journeys in this competition.

In Heat 2, Gurindervir clocked a time of 10.32 seconds, which was insufficient to secure a place in the final. Oman’s Al Balushi Ali emerged as the heat winner, recording a time of 10.01 seconds. Meanwhile, China’s Xie Zhenye and South Korea’s Biwesa Daniel completed the top three with timings of 10.18 seconds and 10.22 seconds, respectively.

Animesh Kujur faced a similar fate in Heat 3, finishing seventh with a time of 10.38 seconds. South Korea’s Nwamadi Joeljin topped this heat with a time of 10.17 seconds, followed by Malaysia’s Mohd Muhammad and Japan’s Koike Yuki, who clocked in at 10.25 seconds and 10.31 seconds, respectively.

India’s Medal Achievements at the Games

Despite the disappointing outcomes for Gurindervir and Animesh, India celebrated notable successes in other events during the Asian Games. Gulveer Singh won a silver medal in the men’s 10,000m race, completing the race in 28:29.38, which ensured his podium finish.

Earlier on the same day, Manpreet Kaur achieved a bronze medal in the women’s shot put event. She secured her medal with her best throw measuring 17.17 metres on her fourth attempt, contributing positively to India’s medal tally.

Day 6 of the Asian Games proved fruitful for India, as shooters Kamaljeet and Suruchi Inder Singh clinched gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Additionally, the team of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil, and Niraj Kumar managed to earn silver in the men’s 50m rifle three positions event.

Other Noteworthy Performances

In further events, Manush Shah and Diya Chitale secured a bronze medal in mixed doubles table tennis after reaching the semi-finals, where they faced a defeat against the Chinese pair of Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha. In squash, the duo of Joshana Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar managed to reach the semi-finals, assuring India of at least one more medal.

Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh also advanced to the semi-finals of their respective singles events, showcasing a strong performance in squash. Furthermore, both India’s men’s and women’s kabaddi teams secured their spots in the finals by winning their semi-final matches against Thailand and Nepal.

In hockey, the Indian women’s team achieved victory over Japan with a score of 3-1 in their Pool B encounter. On the swimming front, Rishabh Das finished sixth in the men’s 200m backstroke final, while weightlifter Seram Nirupama Devi placed seventh in the women’s 61kg category. Boxer Preeti’s venture in the competition concluded in the round of 16 after a 0-5 loss to North Korea’s Pang Chol Mi.

As of now, India has amassed a total of 22 medals, comprising two gold, nine silver, and eleven bronze, placing the country 12th on the medals table.
