A 19-year-old female student, who reported a violent assault by her live-in partner, is currently receiving treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. According to Gurugram Police, her condition is stable. The young woman has alleged that her partner poured hand sanitizer on her body and set her on fire. The accused, a 19-year-old man from Narela, Delhi, has been arrested and faces serious charges, including rape.

Police Charges and Legal Proceedings

The charges against the suspect were outlined in a First Information Report (FIR) filed at Badshahpur police station, following the victim’s statement. The FIR details the nature of their relationship, claiming that the man used the pretext of marriage to engage in a physical relationship while subjecting her to violence. Sections pertaining to serious offenses have been invoked under various provisions of the law. The police have confirmed that the accused was taken into custody immediately after the incident was reported.

According to Gurugram Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sandeep Kumar, the victim’s family alerted the authorities about the ongoing abuse. The police learned that she was being beaten by the accused, who was her friend. Once she was rescued, she was hospitalized for her injuries. Kumar noted that the accused, identified as Shivam, has been remanded to judicial custody after being produced in court.

Ongoing Investigation into the Assault

The Gurugram Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the case. The PRO indicated that the victim and the accused had known each other since September 2025. The investigation will consider the medical findings, and additional charges may be filed based on the medical examination report. The police have confirmed that the accused admitted to the assault during their interrogation.

Victim’s Family and Legal Representation

Reena Rai, the victim’s lawyer, has stated that she was subjected to severe torture by her partner. Rai mentioned that upon speaking with the parents of the victim, they confirmed allegations of grievous harm, including the burning of her private parts with sanitizer. The family is distressed, and the mother has been largely uncommunicative following the harrowing incident. The father expressed concern regarding the severity of injuries, likening the situation to the infamous Nirbhaya case.

The police stated that they are pursuing strict penalties against the accused for his brutal actions. According to Kumar, the injuries sustained by the victim are substantial, and the doctors’ assessments will inform the next steps in the legal actions taken.
