Actor Asin Thottumkal and her husband, Rahul Sharma, have adopted a screen-free lifestyle for their eight-year-old daughter, Arin Rayn Sharma. According to Rahul, their home is devoid of televisions and mobile phones, focusing instead on fostering a love for reading. He stated that books play a significant role in Arin’s upbringing, with the family possessing a collection that exceeds her current educational level.

In a 2025 interview with MyGov India, Rahul elaborated on their parenting approach, attributing much of their daughter’s upbringing to Asin’s influence. He mentioned that they have accumulated books meant for older students, even though Arin is currently in Class 2. “We already have books for Classes 8 and 9 at home. I sometimes joke about letting her attempt the Class 10 board exam early,” he remarked, highlighting Asin’s contributions to their family environment.

Rahul expressed that their decision to keep screens out of Arin’s life has been intentional. He emphasised that the family prioritises reading, stating, “We probably have more books at home than Arin has at her school.” This focus on literature aims to create a rich educational environment for their daughter.

Arin’s Language Proficiency

Rahul also shared insights into Arin’s linguistic abilities, revealing that she can understand and communicate in approximately 12 languages, including Korean, Japanese, Thai, and Chinese. He acknowledged his own limitations in language skills, noting, “I am finding it difficult to speak even two languages. We are stuck with English and Hindi.” This statement underscores the remarkable language acquisition skills that Arin has developed at such a young age.

While Rahul did not provide specific details on how Arin learned these languages or her proficiency levels, his comments suggest that her multilingualism is a significant aspect of her childhood. The family’s commitment to a language-rich environment appears to be a key factor in her development.

Rahul’s reflections on parenting raise questions about the influence of adult choices on a child’s daily experiences. In Arin’s case, the emphasis on books and language learning seems to shape her upbringing significantly.

Rahul’s Appreciation for Asin

Rahul’s admiration for Asin extends beyond their parenting approach. He described her as a steadfast supporter who understands his ambitions and motivates him during challenging times. “Marrying Asin was the most important thing that worked well for me. She is the rock behind me,” he stated, highlighting her role in his life.

He further explained that Asin provides a sense of stability, saying, “If anything happens, she is the one who says, ‘Don’t worry… you just move forward.’” This sentiment reflects the importance of having a supportive partner in both personal and professional realms.

Rahul also noted that while he faces challenges outside the home, Asin manages the complexities within their family. “You are not just fighting a war outside, but you also have to face a similar one within your home,” he said, acknowledging Asin’s vital role in maintaining harmony in their household.

Asin’s Career and Transition to Family Life

Asin began her career in commercials before making her Malayalam film debut in 2001. She gained recognition in the Telugu film industry and made her Hindi film debut opposite Aamir Khan in the blockbuster Ghajini in 2008. This film marked a significant milestone, as it was the first Hindi film to surpass ₹100 crore in net collections in India.

Throughout her career, Asin starred in several successful films, including London Dreams, Ready, Housefull 2, Khiladi 786, and Bol Bachchan. Her last film was All Is Well in 2015, after which she married Rahul Sharma and stepped away from acting to focus on family life.

Asin’s transition from a successful film career to motherhood highlights the choices many individuals make regarding work-life balance and family priorities. Her journey reflects a broader narrative about the complexities of navigating personal and professional aspirations.
