Woman Reports Severe Allergy After Meal on Vande Bharat Train, IRCTC Responds

The CSR Journal Magazine

A resident of Ranchi, Ayushi Singh, has reported experiencing serious health complications after dining on the Vande Bharat Express train. Singh took to X to share her ordeal, detailing that she developed a severe allergic reaction and her two-year-old son faced diarrhoea after consuming their meal on board. She indicated that the incident occurred while traveling in coach E1 of train number 22500 on March 27. Singh urged railway authorities to “look into the matter urgently,” labeling her allergy experience as potentially life-threatening.

Medical Evidence Presented by Passenger

To corroborate her claims, Singh shared two photographs on social media, including her medical prescription from Maa Ram Pyaari Superspeciality Hospital situated in Ranchi. In her posts, she expressed dissatisfaction with both the quality of food served and the perceived lack of responsiveness from the staff to her complaints. She stated, “Worst quality food provided on Vande Bharat Express and insensitive attitude of staff towards complaints. This is my medical prescription describing severe allergy after consuming food in Vande Bharat 22500.”

Concerns Over Hygiene and Food Safety

Singh also raised alarms regarding the taste of the water provided on the train, adding to her overall concerns about hygiene and safety standards aboard the service. Her complaints reflect a growing anxiety among passengers regarding onboard catering services, especially for a premium service like the Vande Bharat Express.

IRCTC’s Official Response

In reaction to Singh’s post, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) stated that the lunch served on Train No. 22500 on March 27 was inspected and deemed satisfactory. The corporation noted that no other complaints regarding the quality, hygiene, or safety of the food served on that day had been recorded.

Impact on Passenger Experience

This incident has shed light on the experiences of passengers concerning onboard catering services, particularly on premium trains where comfort and quality are often emphasized. While the IRCTC claims that food quality met operational standards, Singh’s personal experience contrasts sharply with this assertion. It highlights the need for prompt attention to passenger grievances and the importance of maintaining consistent food safety practices across services.

Significance of the Incident

The Vande Bharat Express is designed as a modern and efficient train service, complete with various amenities intended to enhance the travel experience. Despite this, complications such as Singh’s serve as a reminder of the critical nature of ensuring passengers’ health and satisfaction. The situation underscores the necessity for continuous evaluation of service levels and maintenance of rigorous hygiene standards on all railway services.
